Based on comments on the prior post regarding permits to purchase. This only applies to those individuals that do not hold an FFL license or a CPL license and are purchasing a pistol. This process is intended to reduce the time that a citizen has to wait in our lobby for the background check and paperwork to be completed. The forms will be available on our website for public convenience no later than November 1st.

Please see the Notice regarding Permits to Purchase pistols. Effective November 1st we are requiring a form to be filled out and turned into the Sheriff's Office to allow us time to do the necessary checks prior to issuing the permit. The form will be online by November first and can be dropped off, mailed or emailed to the Sheriff's Office. Please visit our website starting November 1st for additional information. As of December 18, 2012, no purchase permit is required for purchases from a Class 1 FFL Dealer. Purchases from a private party will require a purchase permit that can be acquired at any police or sheriff's office statewide. A License to Purchase a Pistol is valid for 30 days from a private party. This is only an attempt to streamline the process for individuals who wish to purchase outside a Class 1 FFL Dealer.

The MSA was developing the recognition program and medal back then and recently reached out to me to make sure that Sgt. Brown received the Medal pictured. We would like to thank Sgt. Brown for his service and wish him continued enjoyment in his retirement. Pat Whiteford, Sheriff
