Chesterfield Township Police Department News

On Tuesday (10-30-18) at approximately 8:55pm, Chesterfield Township Police, Fire, and Medstar units responded to Jefferson and Cotton Rd., where a bicyclist (a 44 year old Chesterfield man) had been struck by a 17 year old female motorist from New Baltimore. The Chesterfield man was conveyed to McLaren Macomb Hospital by MedStar ambulance and pronounced deceased shortly after his arrival at the hospital. The 17 year old New Baltimore driver remained at the scene after the crash and explained to Officers that she was north bound on Jefferson and simply didn’t see the bicyclist in the roadway, in the darkness and rain, until it was too late to stop. She claimed the man was in the roadway when she struck him. Chesterfield Township accident investigators shut down the roadway for several hours while reconstructing the crash scene. The investigation is in the preliminary stages and at this point it is unknown if alcohol, drugs, and/or speed were contributing factors in the accident.

Governor Rick Snyder, S.A.N.G. Commander General Slocum, and a bipartisan group of policital figures were in attendance today for the groundbreaking for the new Southeast Michigan Veterans Home in Chesterfield Township. The property formerly known as Sebille Manor, once served as active duty base housing, for Selfridge Air National Guard Base. When completed, it will serve 128 veterans, who will reside in four smaller houses. Veterans will have their own bedroom and bathroom, a common gathering area and kitchen space. These smaller houses will also connect to a community center with clinical and therapeutic services. The site for veterans will also feature the kind of amenities one might expect in a hometown community such as a barbershop and salon, a large space for full member and community meeting, courtyards and green space. Pictured is Chesterfield Police Captain Ken Franks, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder, Public Safety Director Brad Kersten, and Captain Brian McNair.

We would like to thank residents for notifying us of the issues with the traffic signals at 23 Mile Rd and Chesterfield Rd. Over the past 3 weeks, the lights have had intermittent issues. The Macomb County Department of Roads and CN Railroads have been diligently working on a resolution to these issues. All parties involved thank drivers for their patience and hope the issue is resolved soon.

One of our officers found this Yorkshire terrier in the area of 23 Mile and Callens roads. She doesn't have a collar or a microchip and it seems like she might have been away from home for a few days because she has gotten a little dirty. She's fairly young and sweet tempered. Her owner can contact 586-949-2322 option 2 to claim her. She will be transferred to Macomb County Animal Control later today. http://chesterfieldpolice.org/found-dog-10-11-2018/

*****UPDATE***** Bandit's Mom is coming to get him. Thank you for the shares, team! Hey, everyone, who is missing Bandit? That's the name on his tag but he doesn't have a phone number or address. CRIME PREVENTION TIP: LOCK YOUR VEHICLES! Remember to keep your vehicles LOCKED when unattended / overnight, and do not to leave valuables in your vehicles (especially in plain view). We received several reports of larcenies from vehicles over the weekend. Locking your doors is the first line of defense from being an easy target. DON'T BE A VICTIM

It is with great pride that we may present to you the Chesterfield Police Department Annual Report for 2017. Hopefully this report will illustrate a continuation of our efforts to provide the residents of Chesterfield Township with the most modern, professional police department possible – whilst continuing to make efforts to be as cost effective as possible.

School is back in session! Be mindful of students walking to school and waiting at bus stops! Also, give school buses the space they need to pick up and drop off students safely. When the red lights are flashing - you need to come to a COMPLETE STOP!

***** UPDATE ***** Unfortunately we were never able to get in touch with Ms. Holloway but one of our citizen super-sleuths was able to determine that the dog may have been re-homed earlier this summer and no longer belongs to Ms. Holloway. This dog is neutered, trained, housebroken and seems good with other dogs. He'll be at MCAC soon if anyone is interested in him. They can be reached at 586-469-5115 opt. 5 Look at this cutie!!! He was found near the border of Chesterfield Township and New Haven. Great news - he has a microchip!!! Bad news - none of the phone numbers registered to his chip are working. He is registered to a lady named Shyandrea Holloway. We haven't been able to find her on social media. Maybe you can help us? We know he would rather go home than stay with us or go to animal control. http://chesterfieldpolice.org/found-dog-8-28-2018/
