The student was lodged at the Youth Center for making terroristic threats. More information will be released at a later time. The Sheriff's Office is encouraging parents to talk with their children about school threats and violence. In the wake of the school shooting incident in Florida all threats of violence are being taken seriously. We encourage parents to stress to their children to not make any type of threats of violence even in a joking manner. If threats of violence are made and evidence supports those threats, criminal prosecution will most likely be the outcome.

We were there four times yesterday checking on the dog and made sure everything was being done to comply with the law. This video was taken on 1/14/18 at 10:30am in stony pointe in the area that the atv rider went missing. As you can see the ice is thin breaking up and moving. Please do not go on Lake Erie for any reason.

The Sheriff's Office is suspending the search for the missing ATV rider on Lake Erie. Earlier today, the Michigan State Police flew a drone over the search area. The photographs taken by the drone show the ice is unstable and has many areas of open water and many large cracks. There are many areas of shifting ice that make a recovery mission far too dangerous to attempt. We will evaluate the ice on a daily basis and resume our operation once the area is safe to do so. The identity of the missing person is believed to be Derik Bondy, a 40-year-old Monroe man. The Michigan State Police is assisting the Sheriff's Office in this investigation and will assist with the recovery when the conditions improve. It is highly recommended that no one attempt to go on the ice as the conditions are unstable and extremely dangerous.
