BIKE SAFETY - ANOTHER GREAT YEAR....THANKS TO OUR AWESOME COMMUNITY BUSINESSES FOR YOUR CONTRIBUTION....WE COULDN'T DO THIS PROGRAM WITHOUT YOUR SUPPORT! West Branch Police presented our 21st year of Bicycle Safety for Surline Elementary Students grades K-4th. We continue to make our programs educational and fun so students remember we want them to be safe! We were able to give all students a bag with safety literature, color books, stickers, etc. along with a water bottle for their bikes! All Kindergartner students received a bicycle helmet. Two lucky boys and two girls received a new bike through a drawing and 2 classrooms received a free pizza party! Chief Walters and Officer Beehler demonstrated and lectured on bicycle safety. Thank you St. Joe's students for inviting us today! We had a great time! Saint Joseph's students greeted, made cards, and sang songs today, thanking military veterans and law enforcement officers.

Today, the West Branch Police Department received 3 new High-Definition in-car video systems. The new video systems will update aging equipment. The video systems were fully paid for through a Department of Homeland Security grant.

A KidsCents Safe Medication Disposal box is now installed and ready to use at the West Branch Police Department. West Branch Police and Rite Aid have partnered to help curb the prescription drug epidemic and keep prescription drugs out of the hands of children. President Trump declared the opioid crisis a "public health emergency" in October. KidsCents Safe Medication Disposal Program provides law enforcement agencies within Rite Aid service areas a security cabinet drop box for prescription drugs through a grant valued at over $2300. West Branch Police are committed to supporting a safe environment for children in our community by helping reduce the misuse of medications by adolescents and accidental childhood poisonings

The West Branch Police Department had the pleasure of hosting and delivering, over 50 Christmas food boxes to families in need today. This would not have been possible without the help of: The City of West Branch, First United Methodist Church, Save A Lot, and many volunteers.

SHOP WITH A COP - ANOTHER GREAT YEAR for our community! This year our community was able to "shop" for over 60 children.....the largest group ever! A HUGE Thank You goes out to our community members and businesses that donated....and a Special Thank You to Wal-Mart and Pepsi! Also, a Special Thanks to Ogemaw Heights Youth Advisory Council students and many other volunteers that stepped up to help in wrapping all the gifts!

IT'S TURKEY DAY! A HUGE and GRATEFUL THANK YOU goes out to our awesome community once again! The West Branch Police hosted the location for food and turkey pickups today, along with help from the West Branch DPW, in collecting truckloads of turkeys and food. This event was organized by the Ogemaw County Clergy Fellowship with donations from local churches, stores and donations from many community people. Numerous residents of Ogemaw County in need of food and a turkey for the Thanksgiving Holiday were able to pick these items up today......Thank you again to our awesome community businesses and individuals who make this possible! Wishing everyone a wonderful and grateful Thanksgiving Holiday!

Here are some pictures from the Halloween Safety Event the West Branch Police Chief Walters presented to the Surline Elementary Students K-4th grades on October 31st! Thank you to all of our local businesses and professionals who donate money to our safety programs....we couldn't do this without you! We were able to provide each student with backpacks filled with coloring books, trick or treat bags, stickers and Halloween Safety Tips this year! We also got to "surprise" the students with a "dance and song" to the Halloween Rules...by our very own staff of Officer Godfrey, Officer Beehler, Officer Adams, and GPSCR Coordinator, Kelli Collins all dressed up for Halloween!

It's "No Shave November", and WBPD officers will look a little different this month! The department will be donating all proceeds to participate, to the local Christmas for Kids chapter.

Scam Alert: Please be aware of a scam going around our area with telephone calls stating they are from Consumer's Energy. The caller states you are needing to pay your bill or they will shut your power off. They are asking you to get a pre-paid card, or telling you to go get one right away. 1. If you are suspicious, Google the number, websites such as "Who's calling me" will show you reviews of known scams. 2. Companies such as Consumer's Energy will know your address, account numbers, etc. 3. Reputable companies and Government agencies (IRS Scam) will have sent you past correspondence via mail prior to calling. (ie. late notice, etc.) 4. Reputable companies and Government agencies will not ask you to send them pre-paid gift cards and money orders. 5. When in doubt, call us. We're here to help!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN! The West Branch Police want to wish everyone a very happy and safe Halloween! Remember the "Halloween Rules" and dress appropriately for the weather....it is cold today! West Branch Police will be at the Surline School today for a Halloween Safety Event for K-4th grade students. Tonight the police will be throughout the city with extra patrol cars watching over our children for a safe Halloween!

Ogemaw County Drug Free Coalition - Chief Walters and GPSCR Coordinator Kelli Collins volunteered to help spread the word and teach Drug Prevention at the Ogemaw County Fair at the Sheriff Posse Building. The Drug Coalition has both "Drunk Goggles" and "Marijuana Goggles" which simulate the feeling of being under the influence. Both young and old tried their skills at mastering shooting a basketball and Chief Walters also performed Sobriety Testing. The Drug Free Coalition of Ogemaw County meets monthly and is always looking for more members. The West Branch Police and City of West Branch are proud to be a part of the Drug Free Coalition and believe it is time to take action and face addiction in our own communities.

BIKE SAFETY- Another awesome group of Surline children - grades K-2nd were able to learn about bike safety from the West Branch Police! A huge THANK YOU goes out to the local businesses who donated so we could give away bikes again to a lucky boy and girl and a free pizza party for a lucky classroom! In addition...every Kindergartner received a bike helmet so they can be safe while riding their bikes! We couldn't do this program without the support of our local businesses and cannot express our thanks enough for another successful year!
