The Sheriff’s Office and other area Law Enforcement Officers played in the First Annual Cops-Robbers and Teachers flag football game benefiting the Mio Thunderbolts Boys Basketball team. Great event for a great cause! Thanks to all that came out Sunday to play and watch.

Yesterday our staff and families, along with other First Responders were treated to a special appreciation luncheon by the Mio Baptist Church and their volunteers. On behalf of my staff and families, we wish to say THANK YOU for your continued support and prayers you and all our residents give to us each and everyday. Just another reason we at the Sheriffs’ Office are proud and humbled to serve this GREAT COUNTY! Sheriff Kevin Grace

MAY WE NEVER FORGET THESE HEROS!

We have been notified by the Oscoda County Road Commission that West Cherry Creek Rd is now fully open to traffic. The damaged culvert has been replaced and road fixed. The road in the affected area is gravel for now, but there are signs on both ends to warn of this, but all detours have been removed and open to through traffic.

The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office had fun teaching bike safety, giving away free bike helmets and holding a Bike rodeo today at the Heritage days event at the Oscoda County Fairgrounds. Great job to all!

The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office wishes to thank everyone for their support in helping pass our recent Equipment Millage. Thank you Oscoda County for your continued support!!

Thank you to all of the wonderful courses who have donated to this cause. Locally, Cedar Valley Golf Course and Garland Golf Course have come on board as a sponsor and we thank them for their support. We are so pleased that courses are requesting to be involved in helping such an amazing place as the Northern Michigan Children's Assessment Center, in Roscommon. The Center provides many services for our child victims in our four county area, including Oscoda County. We have tickets available for purchase at the Sheriffs Office, see Sheriff Grace for further, and tickets are also available at Cedar Valley Golf Course. Thank you to everyone for supporting this cause and "Giving The Most Vulnerable A Voice".

The Sheriff’s Office will be hosting a Boaters Safety Course August 18th, 2018 from 8:30am-4:30pm for young adults 12 yrs of age and older. Sheriff Grace and Special Deputy Schleicher gave a presentation on Friday at the Oscoda Council on Aging. 17 people learned how to stay out of trouble to begin with, and learned a few moves on how to escape if assaulted.

Thank you to all that came out to our 1st annual “Cone with a Cop” ice cream event 06/14/18 and a special thanks to Toni Anderson and Carley of the Mio Dairy Ace for sponsoring this fun event!!! Deputy Tyler, Deputy Mike and Sheriff Grace had a ton of fun with the kids and adults who came out. Thinking we might do this again at a later date. Thank you!!!

Thanks to the Mio Dairy Ace and Owner Toni Anderson, we would like invite kids 12 yrs of age and under to come have a “Cone with a Cop” at the Mio Dairy Ace on M-72, just west of the light in Mio. The event will be this Thursday from 1-3pm and yes we also hear the Sheriff might be there to help with the event, he does like his ice cream. Thank you Mio Dairy Ace!!!

Congratulations to Fairview student athletes, Jaedyn Winton and Derek Nolan for making States in track. We were able to escort the athletes and Coaches out of town this morning as they travelled to Hudsonville MI to compete tomorrow. Good Luck Jaedyn in your 800 yard run and Derek in your discus competition.

Had fun escorting the Mio School kids and staff, on their walk/ride to school day this morning. The kids walked and rode bikes from the Catholic Church to the school. Great Job!!

The Sheriff’s Office had the pleasure/honor of blocking the roads for today’s Memorial Day celebration in Mio. Very nice ceremony and well attended, as it should be to pay tribute to our fallen hero’s. Thank you and God Bless!!

We would like to invite you to the Memorial Day ceremony held every Year in Oscoda County, in front of the County Service Memorial out in front of the Sheriff’s Office on M-33. Service starts at 11:00am on May 28th. Please join us in honoring our fallen veterans and all who served to protect our freedoms.

Thank you to all that protect us each and everyday and especially to those that paid the ultimate sacrifice giving up their lives to protect their communities. RIP to these hero’s.

As many of you know yesterday was a long and stressful day for our staff and for many others in our community. But I am not posting this to have anyone comment on the motive, persons involved or details of the incident, but to just say how proud I am of my Department and all the agencies and Individuals, that made the outcome a successful one. The men and women that helped during this incident are amazing and I am proud of every one of them and of those in our great community for their support. Proud moments! Thank you, Sheriff Kevin Grace

Yesterday was National Take Back Drug day and the Oscoda County Sheriffs Office participated in this great program. With what was collected yesterday and over the last 6 months, we boxed up 46 pounds of pills to be disposed of properly by the DEA. Excellent job to all who took advantage of this GREAT program, to help keep all those pills out of hands of kids, who may accidentally find them, or those that may want them for wrong doing and out of land fills and our water systems. Thank you!!!

Just a reminder the Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office is a drop off site for National Take Back Day and welcome your unused/expired medications on this date, and all days in our Red Barrel in our front lobby. Remember to Monitor, Secure and Dispose of your Meds always!!

County Offices are closed today due to our recent and continued storms, with Emergency Services-Police, Fire and EMS still working, but with slowed responses due to road conditions. Road crews are out and will be doing their best to clean up the roads, but use extreme caution IF you must travel. As always STAY SAFE!!!!

***********PLEASE BE SAFE************** As the ole song lyrics go- “Oh, The weather outside is frightful”, so please if you do not have to drive on our roads, Do Not!! IF you must go out, drive safe and allow a lot of extra time. Both the State Highway and Road Commission are out but as you may imagine, they are going to have a VERY HARD TIME to keep the roads even somewhat clear. We are suppose to get up to 8 inches between now and Sunday evening, and mixed with high winds, possible freezing rain, and other messy stuff, it is miserable out. Stay safe everyone!!!!!

The Oscoda County Sheriff’s Office is holding an ORV Safety Course for students 12yrs of age and older on April 28th, 2018 from 8:30-4:30pm.
