Congratulations to our newest Police Officers! Last Friday, Police Service Aides Jacob Weiss (left) and Cole Hopkins (right) graduated the Wayne County Regional Police Academy. The men represented the Livonia Police Department well with Officer Weiss finishing fourth in his class. Congratulations men and be safe.

The Livonia Police Department would like to wish you and your families a safe and Happy Halloween. Wednesday, our neighborhoods will be flooded with children Trick or Treating. With this in mind, please be extra careful when driving on Halloween night. If you are out with your child look for our officers, which will include Chief Caid and Mayor Wright. We will have a significant presence in the neighborhoods and we will have treats for the youngsters. As always, STAY SAFE and enjoy the evening. See you Wednesday!

The Livonia Police Department took three loaded, illegally carried guns off the streets during a four-day period earlier this month, arresting four people. In two of the incidents, the gun in question had been reported stolen. Marijuana was also found in two of the incidents. The RWB Old Glory 2018 Relay Team passed through Livonia today. The relay event is a 4,300-mile journey across America to honor and connect veterans. It began in Boston on Sept. 11 and will end in San Diego on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The flag is being carried by 10,000 walkers and runners through 24 states over 62 days. The mission of Team RWB is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity. We wish them luck on their journey.

As you can imagine, our officers are called to situations that are very difficult. At times, there are children that are very upset and emotional due to a traumatic event. The Livonia Police Department is advising the public of a suspicious incident that occurred on September 26, 2018 at approx. 7:30 am in the area of Minton/West Chicago near Garfield Elementary School (10218 Arthur St. Livonia, MI). A 11 year old female reported that she was followed by an unknown male (unknown race) described as being thin, 5ft 8 inches, wearing black jeans, white shoes, red/blue baseball hat, black hoody with white writing on the front. The subject was possibly associated with a black small rusty 4 door sedan with tinted windows. The reporting person was not threatened by the male. Livonia Police are advising the public of a suspicious incident that occurred on September 26, 2018 at approximately 11:30 a.m. at Clarenceville High School located at 20155 Middlebelt Livonia, Michigan. A 16 year old female student reported that she was followed today as she walked to school. She described the man as a black male with a dark complexion, approximately 30 years old with short black hair and a muscular build who was driving a black Cadillac Escalade. The man pulled into the parking lot of the high school, rolled his window down and the two spoke for over a minute at which time he asked her to get into his car. The student retreated into the school and notified a school administrator as the subject left the parking lot southbound on Middlebelt Road.

On Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at approximately 4:00pm, the Livonia Police Department responded to the Walmart parking lot, located at 29555 Plymouth Road, for an Unarmed Robbery/Carjacking that just occurred. An 88 year old female victim was exiting her 2017 Ford Escape when she was grabbed from behind and knocked to the ground by a male subject. The suspect took the victim’s purse and keys, got into the victim’s vehicle, and drove away with a female accomplice. The victim suffered some injuries from the fall and was transported to an area hospital. The victim was treated and released. Information obtained through witnesses and evidence at the scene, enabled the Livonia Police department to identify and locate and arrest both suspects. Additionally, the victim’s vehicle and purse were recovered. The defendants were arraigned in the 16th District Court of Livonia today, September 20, 2018. Defendant 1: Jason Harold Malinas, 38 yr old male, Sterling Heights resident. Charges: Carjacking, Robbery Unarmed, 5 counts Stealing-Financial Transaction Device Defendant 2: Jessica Marie St. Clair, 41 year old female, Lincoln Park resident. Charges: Carjacking, Robbery Unarmed, 5 counts Stealing-Financial Transaction Device Both defendants were given a $2 million bond. The Probable Cause Conference is scheduled for September 27, 2018 in the 16th District Court.

Media Release: Livonia Police have made two arrests in connection with an Unarmed Robbery and Carjacking that occurred on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, at approximately 4 p.m. in the parking lot of Walmart, located at 29555 Plymouth Road. The crime occurred when an 88 year old Livonia woman went to go shopping at Walmart. As she parked and exited her vehicle she was approached by a man and a woman on foot. The man approached the victim from behind and grabbed her purse. She struggled to keep her purse and attempted to fight him off with her cane. The man then punched the victim in the head, threw her to the ground and grabbed the purse while his accomplice jumped into the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle. The man jumped behind the wheel of the car and fled the scene, nearly running over the victim, who was lying on the ground, in the process. A Livonia citizen witnessed the crime and followed the suspects away from the Walmart in her vehicle. However, the witness lost sight of the suspects in to the area of Joy Road and Beech Daly. Livonia officers began combing the area and located the stolen vehicle, unoccupied, in the area of Joy Road and Telegraph. Later that evening, at approximately 11:00 p.m., an alert Livonia officer spotted the suspects on foot in the same area and arrested them without incident. The suspects are a 38 year old man from Sterling Heights and a 41 year old woman from Lincoln Park. The victim’s purse containing her credit cards and identification, as well as her car, has been recovered. Livonia Police Detectives are completing their investigation and it is anticipated that a warrant request will be submitted to the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office this afternoon. The identities of the suspects are being withheld until their arraignment.

The Livonia Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the subject shown in these pictures. The subject is a person of interest in a recent theft from the Mobil gas station located at 29321 Eight mile road. The subject asked for ten packs of cigarettes and when the clerk placed them on the counter, the subject grabbed them and fled on foot. A three count Federal Arrest Warrant charging Javar Clarke with Bank Robbery, Brandishing A Firearm and Felon In Possession of a Firearm has been issued in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. CLARKE is alleged to have robbed the Community Financial Credit Union located at 34000 Seven Mile Livonia, Michigan on August 30th, 2018 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Clarke was turned over to the custody of the US Marshals service and is expected to be arrainged on these federal charges over the weekend.

Media Release 8/30/2018 12:09:30 PM On Thursday, August 30, 2018 at approximately 9:00am, the Livonia Police Department responded to the Community Financial Credit Union, located at 34000 W Seven Mile Road, for an armed robbery that just occurred. A masked male walked into the credit union jumped up on a counter, produced a gun, and announced a robbery. The male obtained an undisclosed amount of money and left on foot in an unknown direction. A Livonia Police Officer located a male matching the description driving a white sedan near Farmington and Schoolcraft roads. The male fled westbound on I-96 from Livonia Police. The pursuit traveled west onto M-14. The male attempted to exit at Ford road at a high rate of speed, lost control and rolled the vehicle. The male fled on foot but was quickly apprehended by Livonia Officers. Two guns were located on the male when arrested. The Investigation is ongoing.
