Follow-up from previous post.

Please take note, when this happens today. The Federal Emergency Management Agency, in coordination with the Federal Communications Commission, will conduct a nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts and Emergency Alert System on Wednesday. Cell phones will receive a test alert message at 1:18 p.m. Cell towers will broadcast the WEA test for approximately 30 minutes. During this time, WEA compatible cell phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA should be capable of receiving the test message. Some cell phones will not receive the test message, and cell phones should only receive the message once. The WEA test message will have a header that reads "Presidential Alert" and text that says: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” The WEA system is used to warn the public about dangerous weather, missing children, and other critical situations through alerts on cell phones. Users cannot opt out of receiving the WEA test.

From all of us at the Hawley Police Department, we would like to thank everyone that was involved with our Night to Unite Community Picnic at Westgate Park. Special thanks to our business community, volunteers & city staff for making the event such success. Thank you, again Chief Joe Backlund

Ok, we are fortunate enough to again be scheduled for a visit from Sanford AirMed Helicopter. They are tentatively scheduled to arrive around 5pm. They have many stops to make so will be in Hawley just a short period of time. The visit of course will only happen if they don't have regular business to attend to. Please be respectful when looking inside the helicopter and please remind children of the same. Look forward to seeing you all tonight.

Good Morning, Looks like the weather is going to be great for Night to Unite at Westgate Park. We start serving food at 5pm, remember to bring an item for the food shelf if you are able.

We are sharing this for the Hawley Fire Department.... Stop by the Hawley Fire Station this Friday, August 3rd from 7-10 am for an open house. Froggy 99.9 will be broadcasting live from our station from 5-10 am as part of their Firehouse Friday community outreach program. We will have coffee and donuts, be giving truck and station tours, and members will be available to answer questions. We will also be collecting donations of food items with REACH for the food pantry, so please bring a donation of non perishable food items if you can.

Good Morning, we are a week away from the Night to Unite - Picnic in the Park. The picnic will be held at the Westgate Park, from 5pm to 8pm. Pulled Pork & Hot dogs with the fixin's. Plenty of fun stuff planned for the kiddos. Remember the event is free, but we will be collecting a non-perishable items for the food shelf in town as good will donation.

Yesterday, we posted a traffic count of vehicles at 15th Street & Hwy 10. A question in the comments was posted regarding the number of crashes. Here is a photo image of all crashes property, minor injury & serious injuries in Hawley. The data is from January 1, 2016 thru today.

With the threat of severe weather, the Community Building is unlocked for use for shelter.

Just because curiosity got to me as I ran Radar near 15th Street and Highway 10. In a 4 minute span, 181 vehicles crossed through the intersection. This has been a steady all afternoon. Sunday, July 8th, 16:36 - 16:40.

We wish each and every one of you a very safe and very Happy 4th of July. We also ask that everyone be respectful and mindful when using fireworks. As enjoyable as they are to one person, to the next they can be a trigger to a much larger issue. Be aware of what the laws are and please obey them. 4th of July is nothing new and all the laws apply. Please be respectful and be safe.

Please use the right lane when traveling westbound on Highway 10 from Hawley. The left lane near Wright Funeral Home has suffered damage, possibly from a lightning strike. MNDOT will have a crew on scene to repair as soon as possible.

Returned home, thank you.
