Sherburn Police Department News

Sherburn/Welcome Police Department Shop With A Cop Last year the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department started the “Shop With a Cop” Program. The program was very successful and helpful in our communities. Shop With A Cop is a program that gives local children & families a better, brighter, Holiday seasion. With the help of the communities, we will be sponsoring Shop with a Cop program again this year in which Sherburn/Welcome Police officers share Christmas with children and families in the Martin County West School District who are in need. Officers and kids will spend time together, one on one, in an unforgettable holiday shopping experience. This is one way the Sherburn/Welcome Police officers make a positive contribution to the community. We would like to ask you for help in this task. If you know of some children who could benefit from the Shop with a Cop Program, please let us know who they are with a description of their situation. We are looking for children who meet the following criteria: • The child must be in kindergarten through sixth grade, • The child must have a social or economic need, • The child must reside within the Martin County West School District. The number of children we will be able to help will be limited only by the amount of donations we receive. We have set a goal of $50.00 per child. The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will handle all funds obtained for the program. Each child chosen will be shopping with Officers from the Department at a store in the local area. After the shopping, I would like to bring the kids back to the Police station (Sherburn) to wrap the presents and to have dinner (Pizza). The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will be responsible for shaving the list down to the necessary number. We hope that all children nominated will be able to participate, but we know this will probably not be possible. We would like you to write about the child that you nominate, explaining some of the reasoning you used in making your decision to nominate that particular child. If you would like to donate to The Shop with a Cop Program, please send your contribution to: Sherburn/Welcome Police Department Attn: Officer Nicholas Smith 21 E 1st St. Sherburn, MN 56171 If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at: nsmith@Sherburnwelcomepolice.org Cell (952) 292-5898 I would like to have all donations for the program turned into the Police Department by November 30th, 2018, so that we are able to select how many families will be chosen. Friday, December 21 will be our tentative shopping date. Thank you for all your help and support Officer Nicholas Smith #2207 And the members of the Sherburn/Welcome Police Department

Valero Renewable Fuels-Welcome members of the management team presented Chief Brad Hughes with a check from the Valero Foundation for $10,000 towards the purchase of the in-car camera system for the Sherburn-Welcome Police Department. Thank you so much for this generous support!!

Anyone know what business this van belongs to? Pretty sure it’s fairly local to this area

Well it seems like we are going to get one more blast of winter. We are in a WINTER STORM WARNING beginning at 4 AM tomorrow and running until 7 PM. It looks like after this one, we will finally warm up and move into some Spring weather. Since this storm will occur throughout the day tomorrow, crews will work to move the snow as the day goes on. We ask that you try and avoid parking on the street so they can move the snow as best they can. With the warmer temperatures starting already on Thursday, this will melt quickly, so let's just bare with this last snow event and get through it. Thank you for all your patience with the snow this past few weeks.

Thinking it’s about time to make it a criminal offense to forecast snow.

As we are sure you are aware, the blizzard has arrived and roads are closed all over the area. Please stay home and safe. Plows have been pulled and getting to stranded motorists would be very difficult if not impossible. Stay where you are and ride this storm out. Thank you.

We have just been placed in a Winter Storm Warning from tonight through tomorrow. Please do not park on the street tonight. Remember, a SNOW EMERGENCY is in effect when 2" or more of snow has fallen. Crews will be starting early tomorrow morning if needed, so lets keep the streets clear. Thank you!

SNOW EMERGENCY is in effect until streets are cleared curb to curb. No parking on the street until this is done. Thank you

We have already received several inches of snow. A SNOW EMERGENCY will go into effect at midnight tonight. Please have all vehicles off the road at this time. Crews will begin plowing early tomorrow morning and any vehicles parked on the street will be ticketed and towed. Thank you for your cooperation.

We had to tow a number of vehicles this morning because of the snow emergency. Remember, a snow emergency is in effect whenever we receive 2 or more inches of snow. The forecast has us in a Winter Storm Watch beginning at noon tomorrow until Sunday morning. We are expecting 5-8 inches of snow, so please do not park on the street tomorrow night. Crews will be going out early Sunday morning and violators will be towed. Thank you for your cooperation!!

The forecast calls for 1-3 inches of snow later this afternoon and this evening. We are unsure how much we will get but we ask that vehicles not be parked on street overnight in both communities. This will allow the city crews to move the snow early tomorrow morning as quickly as possible. Please plan ahead and thank you for your cooperation.

No travel is advised at this time. If you are already home, please stay there. Conditions are deteriorating quickly. Stay safe!

We are in a BLIZZARD WARNING beginning at 9:00 PM. Please have all vehicles off the street by 12:00 PM. Both cities will likely begin plowing early in the morning depending on the weather and we need to make this as easy as we can for them. The forecast is predicting up to 12" so this will be a significant amount of snow to move. Any vehicles left on the street will be ticketed and towed. Thank you for your cooperation. Stay safe everyone!!!!

Thank you everyone who shared and commented on the photo that was posted earlier today. We identified the individual and the situation has been resolved. We really appreciate the communities assistance with this.

We are in a Winter Storm Watch beginning Sunday evening into Monday. It is likely we will receive significant snow fall with this storm. Please remember that a snow emergency is in effect in both communities once two inches of snow has fallen. Crews will likely be out early Monday morning and any vehicles parked on the street will be towed during a snow emergency. Thank you for your cooperation.

Sherburn and Welcome are both declaring a SNOW EMERGENCY beginning at midnight tonight. All vehicles need to be off the street at that time until the roads are cleared curb to curb. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Let’s make the city worker’s job easier.

The water test for Sherburn came back clear so you do not need to boiling recommendation has been lifted. Thank you for your patience.

There is a water main break at the corner of County Road 26 and Main Street in Sherburn. The city is working on getting this fixed and hopefully residence will have water again soon

We are looking for children who meet the following criteria: • The child must be in kindergarten through sixth grade, • The child must have a social or economic need, • The child must reside within the Martin County West School District. Although we serve the communities of Sherburn and Welcome, we also interact with many individuals from the surrounding communities – many of which have children in the MCW School District. The number of children we will be able to help will be limited only by the amount of donations we receive. We have set a goal of $100.00 per child. The Sherburn/Welcome Police Department will handle all funds obtained for the program. Each child chosen will be shopping with Officers from the Department at store in the local area. Hey Kids!! Reminder that the annual bicycle safety rodeo is this Saturday at MCW High School. Starts at 10:00. See you there!!

Plowing will start very early in the morning. A Snow Emergency will go into effect at midnight. Please have any vehicle parked on the street at this time removed to enable city workers to clear the snow completely. Thank you for your cooperation!!

We have been placed in a Blizzard Warning beginning tonight at 6:00 and running through Saturday morning. We will not worry about cars parked on the street this evening, but please have all cars removed from the street by 7:00 AM tomorrow. The city crews will be plowing throughout the day and will need the streets clear of parked motor vehicles. Thank you!!
