Good information! From the article: "Consider changing your password. Facebook says that it fixed the vulnerability, so there’s no need to change your password. But, to be safe, log in and change your password anyway. If you use the same password other places, change it there, too. Don’t forget to change your security questions, as well – especially if the answers include information that could be found in your Facebook account." https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/2018/10/facebook-breach-what-do-next?utm_source=govdelivery

A note to all: A nationwide test of the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) and Emergency Alert System (EAS) will occur tomorrow (October 3, 2018) at approximately 1:18 pm. From FEMA.gov: "Cell towers will broadcast the WEA test for approximately 30 minutes beginning at 2:18 p.m. EDT. During this time, WEA compatible cell phones that are switched on, within range of an active cell tower, and whose wireless provider participates in WEA should be capable of receiving the test message. Some cell phones will not receive the test message, and cell phones should only receive the message once. The WEA test message will have a header that reads "Presidential Alert" and text that says: “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” https://www.fema.gov/emergency-alert-test

Have you received a voice message similar to: “From the headquarters which will get expired in next 24 working hours. And once it get expired after that you will be taken under custody by the local cops as there are four serious allegations pressed on your name at this moment. We request you to get back to us so that we can discuss this case before taking any legal action against you.” It's a scam. A Robocall scam. Similar to yesterday's post with scam IRS calls, citizens have received calls and messages similar to above. I posted a link from Michigan.gov just as a reference with good information as well. It's happening all over. SO REMEMBER: Don't fall for the call! And talk to your friends and family members that may not have Facebook to read this. IRS scammers at it again... number of people receiving calls all over Stearns County (including Avon area). Don't fall for the call! If you receive a call that appears to come from the IRS, remember that the IRS does NOT: *Call you without having first mailed you several bills; *Ask for financial information, including your credit card or debit numbers, over the phone; *Require you to pay back taxes using a particular form of payment, such as a wire transfer, gift card, or prepaid debit card; nor *Threaten to have you arrested by local police or other law-enforcement agencies for failing to pay taxes. *The best way to handle such a call is to hang up the phone. Speaking with the scammers may encourage them to call again. https://www.ag.state.mn.us/Consumer/Publications/IRSImposters.asp

Empower yourself against utility scams "You get a call saying your electricity or water will be shut off unless you pay a past due bill. You may not think you have a past due bill. But the caller sounds convincing, and you can’t afford to ignore it, especially if you’re running a small business. Actually, you can’t afford to believe it." Welcome back to all students, teachers and staff!!! Here's to a great school year 2018-2019!!!!! Go Huskies!!!! School Bus Safety Tips for Motorists: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Motorists must stop at least 20 feet from a school bus that is displaying red flashing lights and/or its stop arm is extended when approaching from the rear and from the opposite direction on undivided roads. Red flashing lights on buses indicates students are either entering or exiting the bus. Motorists are not required to stop for a bus if the bus is on the opposite side of a separated roadway (median, etc.) — but they should remain alert for children. Altering a route or schedule to avoid a bus is one way motorists can help improve safety. In doing so, motorists won’t find themselves behind a bus and as a result, potentially putting children at risk. Watch for school crossing patrols and pedestrians. Reduce speeds in and around school zones. Watch and stop for pedestrians — the law applies to all street corners, for both marked and unmarked crosswalks (all street corners) — every corner is a crosswalk. Next Week School Starts!!! A quick reminder for drivers: 1. Follow the speed limit and slow down in school zones and near bus stops. 2. Be alert to kids walking to or from school or the school bus. 3. Slow down and stop if you're driving near a school bus that is flashing yellow or red lights. This means the bus is either preparing to stop (yellow) or already stopped (red) and children are getting on or off. Let's make this a safe and successful school year! GO HUSKIES! PURPLE PRIDE!
