Please remember to make sure your headlights are on, and don't rely on your automatic headlights, or driving lights. We're (barely) seeing way too many vehicles without lights on today. If you have to leave the house, please drive safely as the road conditions are poor. 169.48 VEHICLE LIGHTING. §Subdivision 1.Lights to be displayed. (a) Every vehicle upon a highway within this state: (1) at any time from sunset to sunrise; (2) at any time when it is raining, snowing, sleeting, or hailing; and (3) at any other time when visibility is impaired by weather, smoke, fog or other conditions or there is not sufficient light to render clearly discernible persons and vehicles on the highway at a distance of 500 feet ahead; shall display lighted headlamps, lighted tail lamps, and illuminating devices, as hereinafter, respectively, required for different classes of vehicles, subject to exceptions with respect to parked vehicles and law enforcement vehicles, as hereinafter stated. In addition to the other requirements of this paragraph, every school bus transporting children upon a highway within this state, at any time from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset, shall display lighted headlamps, lighted tail lamps, and illuminating devices as required by this paragraph, except that the operator shall use the lowermost distribution of light specified in section 169.60 unless conditions warrant otherwise.

NEWS RELEASE REGARDING CRASH ON 03/21/2018**** At approximately 2:00 PM on 03/21/2018 the Buffalo Police Department responded to report of a motor vehicle crashing into a building in the 10 block of 1st Ave S. Investigation into the incident revealed that a 17 year old female from Monticello, MN, was in the process of taking her road test at the driver's license exam station located there when she inadvertently put the vehicle in drive instead of reverse. This led to the vehicle lurching forward when she accelerated, causing the vehicle to move forward and over the curb, striking the building housing the exam station office. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle and building. The license examiner, a 60 year old female from Buffalo, MN, was transported by ambulance to the Buffalo Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The 17 year old driver was not injured and no one in the building was injured. No charges are pending.

Minnesota’s only two Polar Bear Cubs are in town this week thanks to Special Olympics MN! Today they rode along with Buffalo Police Detective and Polar Plunge Team Captain Barrett Chrissis. They wanted to make sure Barrett was safe while he gave blood at the Buffalo High School only 10 days before the big Polar Plunge on Buffalo Lake at Sturges Park (Saturday, March 10th). On their way out they spotted another BPD Plunge Team Member: City of Buffalo’s Mayor Teri Lachermeier! Please come and help us rock the Buffalo Polar Plunge along with “Chopper, The World’s Nuttiest DJ,” by either forming your own team or donating to our BPD Plunge team: https://reg.plungemn.org/team/buffalopolicepolarplungeunit 100% of your donation goes to Special Olympics MN.

We wanted to make a brief statement about some police activity in the Pulaski Shores development on Friday, 02/23/2018. There was an extended and significant presence for several hours by both the Buffalo Police Department and the Wright County Sheriffs Department. We are unable to provide further details at this time, but wish to report that the incident was resolved and there is no further risk to public safety. We particularly want to thank the residents and others in the area that suffered any inconvenience.

On February 22, 2018 at approximately 8:37 pm, the Buffalo Police Department received several reports of a threat referencing “bhs” students on multiple social media sites. This threat does not reference Buffalo High School. The information received was a screen shot that appeared to be from Snapchat. Buffalo Police Officers began to investigate this immediately. The investigation revealed that the screen shot that was reported to us was taken from a news media story today in Belen, New Mexico. The information and screen shots that the Buffalo Police Department received are identical to the one that was featured today in the KOB Channel 4 News Story from New Mexico. http://bit.ly/2CDKW2c At this time we do not believe there is any credible threat to students at Buffalo High School.
