Lincoln County Sheriff's Office News

Here is a link to today’s ceremony. It’s at 10:00 am our time.

It comes with deep sadness that our office has lost one of our retirees. Dwayne Burns began his career in law enforcement with the Mississippi Highway Safety Patrol on July 1, 1967 until his retirement on July 1, 1995. Deputy Burns worked for the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office beginning July 5,2005 until his final retirement on December 31, 2013. Mr. Dwayne was a one of a kind man and officer. He believed in the oath that he took, would help anyone, but made sure that justice was prevailed. Dwayne will be missed by many but his department will remember the joy and humor that he brought to us all. In his own words...”Happy Trails”

Remember family, friends, and fellow officers as we travel to Washington D.C. to honor the memory and service of Deputy William Durr at National Police Week. There will be a candlelight service tomorrow night to unveil his name on the wall at the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial and Tuesday will be the memorial Ceremony. I will share a link later where you can view the candlelight ceremony and light a virtual candle in his memory.

Deputy Campbell reported for his first day at work today. We welcome him to the department!

It is with a heavy heart we announce the recent passing of part-time Deputy Art Likens after a lengthy illness. Deputy Likens served many years with the Sheriff's Office in charge of the reserve deputy program, worked on patrol as a part-time deputy, and recently was serving in court services as a bailiff. He was a dedicated Deputy who enjoyed serving the people of Lincoln County. Art will truly be missed. Funeral Services are Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Riverwood funeral home. Visitation will be on Friday, April 13, 2018, from 5-8 pm at Riverwood.

UPDATE- Sherman Lee McCall has been located safe and unharmed. Thank y’all for the help in getting his information out to find him.

Brookhaven City schools and Lincoln county schools will be closed Thursday January 18, 2018 Brookhaven Academy will have a delayed start at 10 am.

Roads across the county are still slick with ice this morning. Stay home if possible but if you do have to travel plan on going extremely slow.

Add hwy 51 and parts of old hwy 51, Pricedale, and Hog Chain to the iced over road list. Pretty much any road with a hill at this point is slick with ice.

Unless you have an emergency please stay off the roads. Hwy 550, 583 and I-55 have ice covering the roadway in many places that is making travel impossible.

Brookhaven City schools and Lincoln county schools will be closed Wednesday January 17, 2018 due to weather. Updated. Brookhaven Academy closed also.
