Corey Jimerson, 46 years old of Leland, MS was arrested without incident by Leland Police Department in Greenville, MS. on 09/20/2018 around 1430hrs. The Washington County Sheriff’s Department with the assistance of Greenville Police Department detained Mr. Jimerson so he can be charged by Leland Police Department in the alleged murder of his girlfriend Ms. Kimberly Renee Johnson. Mr. Jimerson is the suspect in a domestic altercation that occurred at 127 Mcgee St. on 09/20/2018 around 1130 hrs. in Leland MS that left Ms Johnson deceased. The incident is still under investigation and no bond has been set at this time for Mr. Jimerson at this time.

On Thursday, September 20, 2018 around 1140hrs., Leland Police Department was notified of a shot person at 127 Mcgee St. Upon officers arrival a black female was found shot several times in her home. The victim was pronounced deceased onscene at the residence by Pafford Ambulance and Washington County Corner’s Office Methel Johnson. The victim was identified as Ms. Kimberly Renee Johnson, 39 years old of Leland, MS.

Alligator Captured !!!

ATTENTION: During tonight's Board of Alderman meeting, Alderwoman Barbara Brooks reported that someone was seen feeding raw chicken to the alligator in Deer Creek. Mayor Thomas said that anyone who witnesses such an act should call the Leland Police Department immediately. Chief PK Nelson stated that after notifying the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks that the alligator is ok as long as it is in its natural habitat. The Leland Police Department is asking that everyone stay clear and don't feed the alligator.

Public Service Announcement: SAND BAGS ARE AVAILABLE TO RESIDENCE at the Washington County Convention Center! Prepare for 3 to 6 inches of rainfall starting early Wednesday mourning! Also, if anyone in Leland sustains flood damage, there are free flood buckets available at the Leland City Hall donated by UMCOR on behalf of Delta Force Disaster Recovery of Washington County. They contain supplies to help start the clean up process.

On September 1, 2018, at 0850 hrs. Leland Police Department was dispatched to the 3rd St. and Hwy 82 intersection in reference to a traffic accident involving a red Chevy Aveo and a red Volvo Freightliner that left Marshala King, 18 of Leland deceased. It was determined that the Volvo Freightliner was carrying a trailer while traveling west on Hwy 82 and the Chevy Aveo was traveling onto Hwy 82 off 3rd St. when the two vehicles collided. Pafford was onscene and declared Marshala King, the driver of the Chevy Aveo deceased. The 44 year old driver of the Volvo Freightliner was uninjured in the accident and remained onscene. The accident remains under investigation at this time.

Drew McClure, 29 years old of Leland, MS was arrested without incident by Leland Police Department in Cleveland, MS on 08/11/2018 around 1200hrs. with the assistance of Cleveland Police Department and charged in the alleged murder of Mr. Qunterrieus Robertson during a shooting that occurred on the 400 block of N. Main St. on 08/11/2018 around 0025 hrs. in Leland MS that left Mr. Robertson deceased. The incident is still under investigation and no bond has been set at this time for Mr. McClure.

On Saturday, August 11, 2018 around 0028hrs., Leland Police Department was notified of a shot person on the 400 block of N. Main St. Upon officers arrival a black male was found shot in the right breast area of his chest laying in the parking lot. The victim was transported by Pafford Ambulance to Delta Regional Medical Center were the male subject was pronounced deceased around 0120hrs. The male subject was identified as Mr. Qunterrieus Robertson, 27 years old of Leland, MS.

The Leland Police Department lost one of their officers today, when Sgt. Michael Johnston, 52 years old, died after a fight with an illness. Sgt. Johnston had been with the department for a year, serving as an investigator. Before joining the Leland Police Department, Sgt. Johnston served in Washington County as a law enforcement officer at various agencies for over 25 years. Agencies served by Sgt. Johnston include the Washington County Sheriff’s Department and Greenville Police Department. Sgt. Johnston is also a former member of the US Army. Chief PK Nelson stated, “Sgt. Johnston will forever be in our thoughts and prayers”.
