On October 22, 2018 at approximately 2pm, Meagher County Sheriff's Office Dispatch received a 911 cellphone call from a hunter. The caller reported that his hunting partner, a 64 year old male, had fallen from a horse and had possible broken bones. The Meagher County Sheriff's Office Dispatcher was able to get a GPS location on the 911 mapping system, and found their location in the Smith Fork drainage in the Castle Mountains. Meagher County Search and Rescue was paged, but after consulting with SAR members familiar with the area, it was determined the quickest way in was by air. Galt Aviation was contacted and accepted the mission. The helicopter, piloted by Meagher County SAR member Bill Galt, was able to fly in and pick up the injured hunter. The injured hunter was taken to the Mountainview Medical Center for treatment.
Thanks to all of the SAR volunteers!!
