On 10/14/2018 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was contacted by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office in regards to a victim that had been stabbed and left at a fire department in the Leicester area of Buncombe County. The stabbing was suspected to have occurred in Madison County. Detectives with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were able to determine that the stabbing had occurred in the Sandy Mush Community of Madison County. Based on the investigation Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies were able to determine that Christopher Gentry had stabbed the victim multiple times, had struck the victim with a wooden gardening tool, and had also struck the victim with a large rock. After the assault, the victim was taken to a fire department in Leicester. Madison County Sheriff's Office Detective's interviewed Christopher about the assault and Christopher confessed. Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested Christopher Glen Gentry. Christopher was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury with Intent to Kill, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Child Abuse, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Tattooing Equipment. Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies also arrested Christopher’s girlfriend, Lori Katlin Surrett for Child Abuse. Madison County Sheriff’s office contacted Madison County DSS and their minor child was removed from the home.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigated a Sexual Assault case involving a minor. During the course of the investigation, Detectives interviewed Kasey Lane Worley DOB 03/04/1998. Kasey confessed to having sex with the minor. Kasey was arrested and charged with Statutory Rape of a Minor. Kacey received a $100,000 dollar bond.

On 08/30/2018 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received information concerning sexual abuse of a two-year-old child. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigation identified the perpetrator as Ryan Gustina. Ryan was interviewed and confessed to the crimes. Ryan was charged with two counts of a statutory sex offense on a child under the age of 13. Ryan is currently incarcerated at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on a $250,000.00 dollar secured bond. On 08/31/2018 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office received a report reference a rape. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office investigation identified the perpetrator as Jeffrey Price. Jeffrey was interviewed and confessed to the rape. Jeffrey was charged with Second Degree Forcible Rape. Jeffrey is currently incarcerated at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office on a $100,000.00 dollar secured bond.

On 07/26/2018 into the early morning hours of 07/27/2018, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office conducted a drug operation leading to the arrest of twelve individuals who were selling, using and distributing illegal drugs inside Madison County. Amada Lynn Ball W/F 08/03/1986 was charged with PWISMD SCH II, Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling, Felony Possession SCH II Cocaine, Felony Possession Methamphetamine and Possession Drug Paraphernalia. Caleb Austin Pritchette W/M 09/11/2000 was charged with PWIMSD SCH VI and Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling. Robin Danelle English W/F 08/03/1977 was charged with Felony Possession SCH II CS, Possession Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession/Use Food Stamps CF. Patricia Miller Fender W/F 02/23/1955 was charged with PWISMD Methamphetamine, Possession Controlled Substance Jail Premises and Possession Marijuana Paraphernalia. 22 grams of methamphetamine was recovered as a result of Patricia’s arrest. Estefany Flores W/F 06/24/1999 was charged with Sell/Deliver Cocaine, Felony Possession SCH II CS, and Possession Marijuana Paraphernalia. Grayson Phillip Freeman W/M 08/09/1998 was charged with PWIMSD SCH VI and Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling. Brandi Nicole Freeman W/F 09/17/1999 was charged with Conspiracy to sell and deliver SCH VI. Eric Matthew Gillette W/M 02/25/1983 was charged with Felony Possession SCH II CS, Possession Methamphetamine, Possession Drug Paraphernalia, PWIMSD SCH II CS, Maintain Vehicle/Dwell/Place CS (F). Gregory Barrus M 01/16/1966 was charged with Simple Possession SCH VI CS, Possession Marijuana Paraphernalia, PWIMSD SCH II CS, Felony Possession SCH II CS, and 2 counts Felony Possession SCH II CS. Savannah Nicole Rice W/F 08/29/1998 was charged with PWIMSD SCH II CS, Simple Possession SCH VI CS (M), Possession Marijuana Paraphernalia, and Failure to Appear in Alamance County for the following: Larceny of Motor Vehicle (F) and Breaking and/or Entering (F). Percel Shemar Stanberry M 07/17/1995 was charged with Felony Possession SCH II CS. Delana Joan Carlisle W/F 01/01/2001 was charged with PWIMSD SCH VI and Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling.

On 04/20/2018 Madison County Sheriff’s Deputies observed a strong odor of Marijuana emitting from three individuals who were later identified as Brandie Sherelle Angel, AA/F 07/26/1991, Candice Marie Jones AA/F 12/04/1988, and Ciano Damone Kimble, AA/M 05/21/1993. Brandie, Candice, and Ciano had come to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office to visit family that was currently incarcerated. There was also an infant that had been in the vehicle with all three suspects. Detectives with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were able to determine that all three suspects had been using drugs in the vehicle around the infant. Detectives located Heroin, Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia in their vehicle. Brandie, Candice, and Ciano were all charged with Felony Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premise, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Candice was also charged with child abuse. On 04/26/2018 Robert Michael Eugene Thomas was going to court in Marshall for his pending charges of Burglary and felony drugs. Prior to walking through the metal detector Robert emptied out his pants pockets and gave 94 dosage units of LSD (ACID) and another article of drug paraphernalia to the Madison County Sheriff’s Deputy working courthouse security. Robert also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest in Buncombe County. Robert was arrested for Felony Possession of Schedule I.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office Press Release Incident Occurred: 04/12/2018 On 04/12/2018 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Sandy Mush community of Madison County in reference to a breaking and entering in progress with shots fired. Witnesses had observed two subjects breaking into their neighbor's residence. The two subjects were later identified as Travus Amahd McCants B/M 04/06/1986 from Asheville and Felicia Clara Angel W/F 02/16/1970 who was also from Asheville. When neighbors confronted Travus and Felicia, Travus attempted to flee carrying a pillow case of stolen property from the residence. Travus and Felicia had stolen numerous firearms. Travus refused to cooperate with the neighbors and refused to drop the stolen property. As a result of the altercation, the neighbors ended up firing several rounds towards the Travus. Travus fled through the woods leaving the firearms and a portion of the stolen property behind. Deputies with the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security, North Carolina Probation and Parole, and the United States Marshall’s service conducted a ground search that lasted several hours. Law enforcement was able to set up a tight perimeter and kept Travus contained in a wooded area between Sandy Mush and Leicester Highway. Sheriff Harwood located Travus in the woods hiding behind a residence. Travus was apprehended by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office without incident. Sheriff Harwood utilized a robo call system through Madison County 911 to contact all the residents who lived within a one mile radius of the crime scene to alert all the residents of the ongoing situation. As a result of the callout, at least one neighbor contacted the Sheriff’s Office to report seeing the subject behind their residence. Travus was recently released from prison in Virginia. Travus was charged with Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Breaking and Entering, Larceny of Firearms, Felony Larceny, Resisting a public Officer, and Larceny of a Chose in Action. Felicia was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premise, Felony Larceny, Larceny of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Madison County Sheriff’s Office Press Release 03/28/2018 Fugitive Arrested For Terroristic Acts and Threats On 03/27/2018 Sheriff Harwood stated that Deputies arrested Michael Wesley Rice and his girlfriend, Brandi Michelle Morrow. Michael Rice was wanted out of the State of Georgia for Terroristic acts and threats. Michael was also wanted on a Probation Violation for Possessing Dangerous Drugs. As Deputies were attempting to affect a vehicle stop on Rice and Morrow, Rice jumped from the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot from Deputies. After a foot chase Deputies arrested Rice. Morrow was also a Fugitive that was wanted out of the State of Georgia and was arrested. Michael Rice and Brandi Morrow are currently being held in the Madison County Jail on Fugitive from Justice Warrants and awaiting extradition to Georgia.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE TUESDAY, MARCH 20, 2018 http:www.usdoj.gov/usao/ncw Previously Convicted Drug Trafficker Sentenced to 32 years A joint operation between the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Mars Hill Police Department, and Homeland Security lead to the arrest of Christopher and Elizabeth. Asheville, N.C.—Today, U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger sentenced James Christopher Gann, 36, of Asheville, to 391 months in prison and five years of supervised release on drug trafficking conspiracy and witness intimidation charges, announced R. Andrew Murray, U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. According to filed court documents and today’s sentencing hearing, Gann was convicted in 2007 of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and was ordered to serve more than six years in prison. Upon his release from prison in late 2016 and continuing through February 2017, Gann trafficked more than 22 kilograms of high-purity methamphetamine into North Carolina from a supply source in Oklahoma. Court records show that Gann recruited his girlfriend and co-defendant, Elizabeth Ann Hollifield, to assist him in the sale of the Methamphetamine. According to court records, during an undercover drug transaction, law enforcement arrested Hollifield, who subsequently agreed to cooperate with the investigation. According to court records, when Gann became aware of Hollifield’s cooperation with law enforcement, he physically assaulted her on two separate occasions to dissuade her from further interaction with the authorities. Gann pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine and assault with intent to hinder, delay and prevent communication to law enforcement. Hollifield was previously sentenced to 63 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute and to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. All federal sentences are served without the possibility of parole.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating several Breaking and Entering’s in the Bend of Ivy and Gabriel s Creek Community. As a result of the investigation, Detectives arrested Brandon Robert Chandler and Morgan Skimmiehorn for the Breaking and Enterings. Brandon and Morgan broke into several outbuildings and barns. Detectives recovered several stolen items from Brandon’s residence. Detectives also recovered a stolen utility trailer that Brandon and Morgan had stolen from the East Fork Community. Brandon and Morgan confessed to the thefts. Detectives arrested Eric Holt from Hot Springs. Eric was charged with Felony Elderly abuse for exploiting thousands of dollars from an elderly person. Eric was also charged for Possession of Schedule II, Driving While License Revoked, Open Container, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Eric confessed to the crimes. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office was investigating a dump truck that was set on fire in the Shelton Laurel Community. As a result of the investigation, Detectives arrested Frankie Garrett, Bradley Chandler, and Jeffrey Chandler. Detectives were able to determine that Jeffrey contracted Bradley and Frankie to burn the dump truck. As a result of the investigation, Detectives discovered that Jeffrey was trying to contract Bradley to burn several residences in Hot Springs and to steal property. Frankie was charged with Burning Personal Property, Injury to Real Property, and Conspiracy to Burn Personal Property. Bradley was charged with Burning Personal Property, Injury to Real Property, Conspiracy to Burn Personal Property, and Conspiracy to commit Second Degree Arson. Jeffrey was charged with Conspiracy to Burn Personal Property and Conspiracy to Commit Second Degree Arson. Detectives received information that Jammie Christopher Shelton was distributing quantities of Methamphetamine in the Shelton Laurel Community. Jammie is a registered sex offender from Greenville Tennessee. Jammie was charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Deputies responded to a breaking and entering in progress. Robert Franklin Owen was attempting to break into a residence. Deputies located Heroin, Methamphetamine, and Suboxone on Robert. Robert was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Schedule I, Felony Possession of Schedule II, Possession of Schedule III, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia, Second Degree Trespass, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Intoxicated and Disruptive.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested Richard Seth Brown Swann, W/M 03/29/1991 for two separate breaking and entering’s. Richard broke into a residence in the Laurel Community. The property owner returned home while Richard was inside the residence. The property owner confronted Richard and Richard fled from the residence. At least one round was fired in an attempt to detain Richard by the home owner. Richard broke into a different residence in the Little Pine Community. Richard stole several items from the residence. Detectives were able to arrest Richard in Marshall when he was going to a Parole meeting. Richard was on Parole from the North Carolina Department of Corrections. Richard confessed to both of the thefts. Richard was charged with two counts of Breaking and Entering, and Felony Larceny. Joe Don Wilson W/M was arrested in the East Fork Community. Joe Don Wilson had just been placed on Probation the same day for a separate attempt to distribute Methamphetamine. Joe Don was arrested and charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Vanessa Smathers Mack W/F 08/19/1973 was arrested in the East Fork Community. Vanessa was charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Vanessa was on Probation at the time of her arrest for Felony Possession of Schedule II. Paul Harold Sexton W/M 09/16/1961 was arrested in the East Fork Community. Paul was charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Judy Carol Denton W/F 12/16/1957 was arrested in the East Fork Community. Judy was charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia.

Over the past two weeks the Madison County Sheriff’s Office has been investigating several reports of damage to property in the Laurel and Mars Hill Communities. The majority of the damages were to mailboxes. Several vehicles had their tires cut; windows busted, and were spray-painted. The suspects also manufactured an explosive device, which they used to blow up a mailbox. Washington County and Unicoi County Tennessee reported several similar incidents. Madison County, Washington County, and the Unicoi County Sheriff’s Office in a joint effort conducted several interviews that resulted in 19-year-old Thomas Blaylock being arrested. Three other juveniles were involved in the incidents and confessed. The individuals are currently in the custody of Unicoi Sheriff’s office and will be facing 34 counts of misdemeanor damage to property and one felony count of malicious use of an explosive or incendiary device in Madison County. The suspects also confessed to damaging vehicles in Yancey County. In Unicoi County Tennessee the suspects are charged with Civil rights intimidation for vandalizing a church, vandalism over $1000, aggravated burglary and theft of golf clubs, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, vandalism over $4000, vandalism under $500, 25+ counts of vandalism to mailboxes, and theft of property. The suspects will also face charges out of Washington County TN for incidents including vandalizing an additional church in Washington County. Sheriff Harwood stated, “These individuals have no respect and regard for anyone’s personal property not even a place of worship, this will not be tolerated”.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Mars Hill Police Department were investigating the theft of a motorcycle stolen from Mars Hill. During the course of the investigation it was determined that the male suspect had attempted to conceal his identity by wearing a woman’s wig, which he dropped while stealing the motorcycle from Mars Hill. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office and the Mars Hill Police Department arrested Justin Paul Maltry for stealing the motorcycle. Officers and Deputies recovered the stolen motorcycle at Justin’s residence. Officers and Deputies also recovered a second stolen motorcycle from Buncombe County at Justin’s residence. As a result of the investigation Officers and Deputies were able to gain enough evidence to charge Justin for a third motorcycle theft from Buncombe County. Deputies and Officers located Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia that was concealed underneath a load of scrap metal in the bed of Justin’s truck. Justin Paul Maltry, W/M 01/08/1987 Justin was arrested for the thefts of the three motorcycles, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jesse Earl Oneal, W/M 02/12/1986 was arrested for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office arrested Anthony Dean Justice W/M 04/20/1991 who is currently on parole for involuntary manslaughter. Anthony was convicted in Madison County in 2015 for selling a fatal amount of heroin. Anthony was stopped and arrested for Felony Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia in the Grapevine Community of Madison County. Tyler Louis Jodry, W/M 11/09/1991 was arrested for Felony Possession of Cocaine and Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance. John Douglas Edmonds, W/M 02/12/1955 was arrested for Selling and Delivering Methamphetamine, Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Methamphetamine, Sell and Deliver Schedule IV, Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Schedule IV, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Maintaining a Vehicle for a Controlled Substance, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Jonathan Keith Dillingham, W/M 04/05/1985 was with John. Jonathan is an absconder from Probation and Parole. Jonathan also had several outstanding Felony warrants for his arrest in Buncombe County. Jonathan was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Anthony Howard Marchese, W/M 09/08/1959 was arrested for Possession with Intent to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession with intent to Sell and Deliver Marijuana, Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Dwelling Place for a Controlled Substance, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Linda Schroeder Medford, W/F 01/19/1961 was arrested for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Schedule II, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Timmothy O’Neal Phillips, W/M 11/22/1982 was arrested for Selling and Delivery of Methamphetamine. Natalie Amanda Pilkington, W/F 12/15/1998 was arrested for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Alicia Ann Metcalf, W/F 11/01/1980 was arrested for Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Marijuana. Santas Leo Jackson Jr, B/M 01/13/1993 was arrested for Felony Possession of Heroin. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to Rector Corner in Marshall in reference to a vehicle that had been broken into. When Detectives arrived they located fresh footprints in the snow around the vehicle. Detectives followed the tracks back to a nearby residence. As a result of the investigation Matthew Scott Ramey was charged with Felony Breaking and Entering a Motor Vehicle, Larceny, and Possession of Marijuana Paraphernalia. Matthew Scott Ramey, W/M 08/25/1986 Joseph Tyler Griffey was arrested for Felony Larceny. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office has Warrants issued for: Felisha Ann Ball, W/F 04/03/1989 for Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine Richard Lonnie Beall, W/M 11/22/1970 for Conspiracy to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine. On 01/10/2018 the Madison County Sheriff’s Office conducted a joint undercover drug operation with Homeland Security and the Mars Hill Police Department. As a result of the operation Deputies seized 14 ounces of Methamphetamine. These suspects had planned on distributing this large amount of Methamphetamine throughout Madison County. Christina Louise Mace, W/F 02/09/1982 was arrested and charged with two counts of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession with the intent to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Devon Gray Hazel, B/M 05/12/1989 was arrested and charged with two counts of Trafficking in Methamphetamine, Possession with the intent to Sell and Deliver Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance on Jail Premise, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. John William North W/M 05/10/1992 was arrested and charged with Trafficking in Methamphetamine. Brianna Storm Keener W/F 09/19/1996 was arrested and charged with trafficking in Methamphetamine and felony possession of Controlled substance on Jail premises. Dakota Ray Creek W/M 12/31/1986 was arrested and charged with Trafficking of Methamphetamine by possession, Possession with the intent to Manufacture sell and deliver Schedule II controlled substance, Maintain vehicle/dwelling place for controlled substance, and Felony possession of Methamphetamine.
