Anna Mae Blessing, a 92-year-old resident of Fountain Hills, was just arrested by the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for murdering her son.

Before the incident, the senior citizen had been living with her 72-year-old son and his son’s girlfriend. Court records indicate that Blessing’s son had recently considered moving her into a living assisted facility. Blessing reported to the authorities that her ungrateful son wanted her out of the family home because she was becoming too hard to live with. The 92-year-old struggled with these thoughts for a few days before deciding to carry out the murder.

Blessing waited until her son and his girlfriend were sleeping before grabbing two firearms and placing them in her pocket. She snuck into their room and began to open fire on her son. The girlfriend sprung out of bed and wrested the firearm away. Blessing reached into her nightgown pocket and brought out another concealed weapon, but the girlfriend was able to successfully toss the weapon across the room without being injured. The girlfriend fled the scene and later contact the police.

Responding officers found Blessing in a recliner in her bedroom. She told police that she had desired to kill herself, but she didn’t have any more weapons to carry out the deed. Police discovered her son deceased in his bed. Blessing reportedly yelled out to him: “You took my life, so I’m taking yours!”

Blessing has been charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $500,000.
