CBS News reports that a man in Delaware has admitted to killing his wife who has been missing since 2015, and recently led police to her remains.
Cortez Hamilton pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on January 19 for the murder of his 35-year-old wife, Keisha Hamilton. Hamilton agreed to show investigators where her body was as part of his plea deal with prosecutors.
Although the remains haven’t been officially identified as those of Keisha, they were located very near the couple’s home in Smyrna, Delaware.
Prosecutors say that he killed her in January 2015 before fleeing with their two children to Indiana. He was arrested by Indiana State Police after a nationwide Amber Alert was issued.
Hundreds of volunteers searched for Keisha in the weeks after her disappearance, says CBS. She was reported missing by her sister after she didn’t show up for work. Her sister also told police she had received worrisome texts from Keisha the night prior. Keisha told her to call police if anything happened to her, because she feared for her own safety.
The sister stated, “My sister had texted me the night before and told me that if anything happened to her, have the police check Cortez. He was acting strange,” says the News Journal.
The sister met officials at the Hamilton home and let them in, where large pools of blood were found, spatter, a large knife and several blood stains.
When police arrested Hamilton in Indiana, they found bloody clothing belonging to Keisha and a bloody hammer in his vehicle.
No cause of death for Keisha has been provided. Cortez’s sentencing is scheduled for March 28.
