The Associated Press reports that a man is facing charges after a loaded gun was discovered in his 4-year-old son’s backpack at school. Joshua Finley, 32, of Maryville, Illinois, is facing charges of reckless conduct after the gun was found in a backpack he took to his son at day care on July 2. The bag was supposed to contain items used for naptime, but the child opened the bag and found the gun with the blankets and sheets that Finley dropped off.
The child took the gun to his teacher, and police were called. It is not clear why the gun was packed in the bag.
Finley and prosecutors did not comment on the case, and officials at the jail say Finley is not currently in custody. A listed phone number for Finley was also disconnected.
