Willie Shorter Sr, a former Floridian caregiver, was just apprehended after it was discovered he was the father of a mentally disabled adult’s child.
The Rockledge Police Department confirmed that the woman became pregnant back in 2015, and they have been investigating ever since. The victim was residing in a group home in Rockledge due to severe mental disabilities when she became pregnant. According to police records, the victim’s mental challenges prevent her from consenting to sexual intercourse.
At the time the victim fell pregnant, Willie Shorter was working as a caregiver at the facility. Police identified Shorter and two other men as potential suspects, but not enough DNA evidence was present at the time to make any connection between the suspects and the unborn baby.
Eventually, the victim gave birth to a healthy child, but she is not capable of being a parent due to her mental challenges. She remains in a facility.
Sometime after the child was born, police obtained a DNA sample from the youngster. Shorter agreed to voluntarily provide a DNA sample to authorities. The lab results just came back on February 6th. There was a 99.99 percent match between the baby’s sample and Shorter’s.
Shorter was promptly arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious battery on a disabled adult. At the time of his arrest, he was working at Woodsmere Estates Group Home, where he potentially had access to more victims. He was later released from jail on a $15,000 cash bond.
