CBS News reports that a high school coach has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting students in Chicago.

Authorities were contacted by administrators at Vernon Hills High School last week about possible criminal conduct by a staff member of the high school involving a student. The soccer coach was subsequently arrested and charged for the alleged sexual assault of three different students, says CBS Chicago.

Cori Beard, 28, is a part-time assistant soccer coach for the boys’ and girls’ teams and allegedly engaged in “unlawful sexual acts with three current Vernon Hills High School boys.” These acts are said to have happened between December 2017 and February 2018.

Beard has been employed by the Community High School District 128 since 2013. The school has reported that it will be providing counseling services to students and staff as a result of the incidents.

Beard is a resident of Vernon Hills and has been officially charged with 12 counts of criminal sexual assault, which are classified as felonies. She is scheduled to appear in court March 13.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Beard is currently being held at the Lake County Jail and her bail is set at one million dollars.

The Daily Herald states that authorities are currently in talks with potentially four additional victims who are former students. Forensic analyses of cell phones and social media accounts are currently under way, with deleted text messages and pictures being recovered, according to Vernon Hills police Deputy Chief Patrick Zimmerman.

The school board called a special meeting for this evening at 7 p.m., at which they are expected to dismiss Beard.
