FOX News reports that a man who is possibly an illegal immigrant has been arrested for allegedly trying to kidnap two children at a Walmart in Louisiana, all while armed with a machete, homemade shiv and pepper spray. The man tried to take the children from their mothers while shopping in the store.

Billiy Yoe Budier-Herrera, 33, of Metairie, entered a Walmart in Kenner Friday and told a mother of a 2-year-old that she would be killed if she didn’t follow his directions. The mother tried to walk away from Herrera but he blocked her and flashed his machete, also threatening the life of her son. A struggle between the two followed as Budier-Herrera attempted to swipe the boy from the shopping cart. However, the mother safely got her son behind a deli counter and Herrera fled the scene when she called for help.

Budier-Herrera was swinging the machete as he was fleeing the store, scaring off employees that came to the mother’s aid. In the midst of his escape, he tried to grab another infant from a child seat in a shopping cart, but he couldn’t get the child out because the seat strap was buckled.

Budier-Herrera was eventually tackled by Walmart employees and an off-duty police officer who was in the store. That’s when police found the homemade shiv made of a plastic handle and razor blades, as well as pepper spray and the 10-inch machete he was brandishing.

Budier-Herrera has been charged with two counts of second degree kidnapping of a child and two counts of aggravated assault, as well as two counts of illegal carrying of weapons and a count of disturbing the peace. He was also charged with an immigration detainer. No bond has been set for Budier-Herrera.
