The Daily Beast reports that a man has been arrested for the murder of a 19-year-old Colorado woman, who supposedly posted an ad on Craigslist asking someone to murder her.
Joseph Lopez, 22, told police that Natalie Bollinger posted an ad in the “women seeking men” section of Craigslist, stating she wanted to put a hit out on herself. The ad was posted in December, and Lopez posed as a hitman answering her ad.
Bollinger’s body was found on December 29 in a wooded area after her boyfriend reported her missing the day prior. His Glock was also missing, according to police.
Autopsy reports said the cause of death was a single gunshot to the head, from behind, at close range. She also had a “potentially lethal level of heroin in the blood at the time of death.”
Early on in the investigation, police were focused on a man that Bollinger had claimed was stalking her. She posted on Facebook that the man had driven cross country to see her and sleep behind her work, then sent hundreds of texts after she told him she didn’t want to see him anymore. The man was quickly ruled out as a suspect upon questioning.
Police then checked her phone and found 111 messages between her and Lopez on December 28, says the Beast. Lopez told police Bollinger paid him to kill her, then gave two different versions of events. He first told police that Bollinger met with him but backed out, later shooting herself. However, GPS information from Lopez’s phone placed him in the wooded area where her body was found.
Lopez then told investigators that he picked her up and tried to talk her out of it, when they found the area. He also said they prayed together before shooting her with a gun she gave him.
Lopez is currently being held without bail.
