People.com reports that a man has been arrested in New York City for randomly slashing the faces of two different women. Shawn Thomas, 30, has been taken into custody and charged with two counts of assault, one count of criminal weapon possession and one count of unlawful possession of marijuana, according to People and the New York Police Department. The New York Daily News says this is the second time police have arrested Thomas this week.
The two alleged attacks happened within five blocks and minutes of each other on the city’s Lower East Side. A 60-year-old woman was the first victim, and was attacked at 1:50 p.m. on Friday afternoon. She was taken to a local hospital and given 10 stitches in her cheek, says CBS.
The second victim was a 57-year-old woman who was attacked just seven minutes after the first victim. She was also taken to the hospital, and received a surgery to repair nerve damage, according to CBS New York.
Thomas was arrested that same day at 2:52 p.m. at Avenue D and East 3rd Street, and is being held on $350,000 bond. A blade was found at the scene, but no motive is apparent to officers. No plea has been entered into court yet for Thomas, and no information about his attorney is currently available.
