People.com reports that a 4-year-old was snatched from her home while her parents slept last weekend. On Sunday, a Pennsylvania girl was taken from her home by a stranger in the middle of the night and sexually assaulted. The suspect is now in custody.
Humberto Guzman-Garcia, 35, did not know the girl’s family before the abduction, but it is unknown whether he observed the girl during the day and followed her to her home.
Police think there may be prior victims of Guzman-Garcia, given the brazen nature of the crime. He faces charges of false imprisonment of a minor, kidnapping, criminal attempt-rape of child, aggravated indecent assault of child, unlawful restraint/serious bodily injury and aggravated assault.
The victim told police that Guzman-Garcia knocked on the apartment door in the middle of the night. Since the girl’s room is near the door, she heard it and slightly opened it. She left the chain latch secure, but Guzman-Garcia was able to pop it and grab the victim.
The parents awoke at approximately 3:30 a.m. to find their daughter missing. The father went outside and spotted her with a man who was holding her behind a shed about 50 yards from the apartment. The father tried to apprehend the man, but he fled the scene.
Guzman-Garcia was found in a vehicle in the parking lot of the complex, and he admitted to taking the child and assaulting her.
Guzman-Garcia is being held on $500,000 bond in Chester County, and is being represented by a public defender. It is unknown whether he has entered a plea. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for June 22.
