CNN reports that another fatal shooting took place in Nashville, TN today at the Opry Mills mall. One person died from his injuries. According to police, the shooting began when two men were having a personal dispute. The victim was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
After the suspect fired two shots, he surrendered at a ticket booth across the street from the mall, and told them to call 911. A retired California officer took his weapon and told him to lay on the ground until police arrived.
Both men were known to Nashville police, and both are 22 years old. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded to the scene.
Interviews will be conducted with the suspect and witnesses over the next several days. Police believe the argument had been festering for a time and this was not a spur-of-the-moment case of violence.
The Tennessean identified the suspect as Justin Golson, and the victim as Demarco Churchwell. There were at least 25 witnesses to the shooting, but no one else was injured.
Schools and the Grand Ole Opry were locked down after police received the report of the shooting around 2:23 p.m.
