The Associated Press reports that a woman in Phoenix has been arrested after allegedly fatally running over a man with her car. The accident allegedly happened when the woman was involved in a car crash in a gas station lot.
Shanika Bennett, 33, was arrested on suspicion of manslaughter and impaired driving charges. She was driving at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday when she tried to avoid a collision by braking. Police claim she was unable to stop due to mechanical issues with her car when it left the road and entered a gas station parking before hitting Sergio Grimaldo, 34, as he left the station.
Grimaldo was taken to a local hospital in critical condition before dying from his injuries.
It is unknown whether Bennett has retained an attorney at this time.
