On April 8th, a tragic shooting occurred in Liberty City. The shooting was fatal for two young teenagers, and two additional victims were injured as a result of the incident. After a month of extensive investigation, Miami police officers have finally arrested two suspects they believe are responsible for the Liberty City shooting.
In April, teenagers Kimson Green and Rickey Dixon were outside on the front lawn of an apartment complex with two other teens. They were suddenly struck by gunfire, and the motive behind the drive-by baffled investigators for weeks. The victim’s classmates were devastated by the shooting. Their peers at Northwestern Senior High School staged a walkout in memory of their friends. The walkout was also in protest against the nation’s growing gun violence.
Investigators were able to utilize tips to set up a perimeter around the neighborhood where the shooting took place. On May 5th, authorities were able to detain both Yaairnes Rashad Bryant and Anthony Clinch, a 21-year-old and 19-year-old, for the shooting. Both suspects were arrested around 5 p.m. and charged with two counts of first-degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder. They were taken to Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
Bryant’s mother has spoken to news reporters and argued that her son is innocent. She believes his arrest is a misunderstanding, and she claims the suspect was with her daughter when the shooting occurred in April. Despite the mother’s protests, both suspects have been denied bond by a judge. Police will be holding a news conference on May 7th to provide additional details about the case.
