SUSPECT: 16-year-old minor
DATE OF ARREST: April 18
THE DETAILS: On Saturday, Authorities in Nebraska were disturbed to learn about a shooting in the Westroads Mall. Police rushed out to the scene where they found one deceased male and one injured female. The woman, later identified as Ja’Keya Veland, suffered non-threatening injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital. The person who was killed in the shooting was later identified as 21-year-old Trequez Swift. As authorities helped the injured victims, the suspects fled the scene. Many shoppers took shelter in various stores, and the mall was completely shut down for the remainder of the day. Later, authorities identified a 16-year-old minor as the perpetrator of the shooting. While the minor’s identity hasn’t been revealed yet, it has been confirmed that a second suspect was also arrested in connection to the event. 18-year-old Brandon Woolridge-Jones has been charged with being an accessory to murder.
SUSPECT: Stephen Nicholas Broderick
DATE OF ARREST: April 19
THE DETAILS: On Sunday, authorities received a 911 call about a possible shooting near the Arboretum Oaks Apartments. They rushed out to the scene where they discovered three victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency medical personnel quickly attempted to do CPR, but all three victims were declared deceased at the scene. Initially, police were told that the situation was an active shooter situation, but after investigating the scene, police determined the shooting likely stemmed from a domestic situation. The following day, authorities received more calls. This time, a man was walking along the road and was identified as the suspect in the previous day’s shootings. When police arrived, they found Stephen Broderick walking along the road and they took him into custody without incident. Police now say that Broderick had recently been released from jail after getting charged with sexual assault. His previous arrest reportedly destroyed his career as a police officer, and it also ruined his marriage with the victim.
SUSPECT: Robert Runcie
DATE OF ARREST: April 21
THE DETAILS: Most of us still remember the Marjory Stoneman High school shooting that happened back in 2018. While the Parkland school shooting was fatal for 17 students and staff members, it was sadly not out of the ordinary. Mass shootings have been on the rise over the past several years, and the public is demanding that something changes. On April 15, a grand jury was speaking to Superintendent Robert Runcie under oath. The jury was hoping to determine whether schools in the county had been putting students at risk by failing to follow safety laws. The jury was also attempting to investigate whether certain school officials were committing fraud and deceit by using safety-fund money for other purposes. Even worse, the jury was hoping to find out whether some officials had been intentionally underreporting criminal activity in their schools. According to authorities, Superintendent Runcie made specific statements that he “did not believe to be true” while testifying under oath. Due to his actions, the police have now arrested him and charged him with perjury. Despite the arrest, Runcie was released on his own recognizance a short time after getting apprehended.
SUSPECT: Amanda Young
CHARGES: Homicide, conspiracy to commit homicide
DATE OF ARREST: April 20
THE DETAILS: Last year, Amanda Young’s boyfriend, Lewis Reupena, passed away. He was killed in a tragic road rage incident. After the horrific ordeal, Young became obsessed with finding out what happened that night. While the California Highway Patrol conducted its own investigation, Young enlisted the help of her boyfriend’s family members and they started their own “street” investigation, too. The authorities determined that Lasi wasn’t involved, but Young was convinced that the rapper had something to do with her boyfriend’s death. She eventually convinced one of her deceased boyfriend’s brothers of Lasi’s guilt, too. She also told him that he should kill Lasi for revenge. On December 19, Lasi was discovered deceased after being shot by Isaiah Reupena. He was quickly arrested and charged with murder. Young, on the other hand, was arrested on Tuesday for her role in the murder. According to authorities, the victim’s death was a case of mistaken identity. He had nothing to do with the passing of Lewis Reupena.
SUSPECT: Ronnie Ortiz-Magro
CHARGES: Domestic violence
DATE OF ARREST: April 22
THE DETAILS: Ronnie Ortiz-Magro made a name for himself by starring on the TV show Jersey Shore. Despite his fame, he was allegedly taken into police custody on Thursday after committing domestic violence. Right now, the authorities aren’t releasing too many details about what happened. They have said, though, that the Jersey Shore star is accused of committing violence against an “intimate” partner. The identity of the other person hasn’t been confirmed yet. This recent arrest isn’t Ronnie’s first brush with the law. In 2019, he was apprehended on the suspicion of committing domestic violence. In 2020, he pleaded no contest to both resisting arrest and domestic battery. Due to that previous arrest, Ronnie was on probation at the time of the most recent allegations.
