People.com reports that a former Houston substitute teacher allegedly filmed himself performing a sex act on a student while that student was asleep.
Manual Gamboa, 35, has been arrested and charged with engaging in an improper relationship with a student and sexual assault. The alleged incident occurred on June 3, 2017.
According to police, Gamboa invited a 17-year-old male student to his apartment, which is located in Houston. Gamboa was employed as a substitute teacher at the time at Dekaney High School in Houston. The student said he saw Gamboa as a mentor and didn’t question the invitation.
He allegedly gave the student beer, who proceeded to consume several of them and became drunk. He told Gamboa he was feeling sick, so Gamboa allowed him to fall asleep on a sofa bed in his living room. The teen then woke to find Gamboa lying next to him, and as he left to use the restroom Gamboa smacked his buttocks.
While urinating, the teen noticed discomfort. He asked to use Gamboa’s cell phone and found sexually explicit images and videos on the phone of Gamboa performing a sex act on him while he was asleep without his consent.
A sexual assault exam at a hospital later found evidence of someone else’s DNA, says People.
Gamboa does not have an attorney on record and has not entered a plea. His current bond is $80,000.
The following statement was issued by the Spring Independent School District, which oversees Dekaney High School: “Immediately upon notification by Harris County of potential pending charges against Mr. Gamboa, a substitute teacher in the district, he was removed from our substitute pool. The safety of our students is our highest priority. The criminal history and references of job applicants, including those who apply to serve as substitutes, are routinely checked before they are hired.”
