Israel Moon, a 21-year-old, has been taken into police custody and is facing criminal charges related to the fatal shooting that occurred in Kennedy Township over the weekend.

On July 28, a group of young adults gathered together to witness two teenagers work out their difficulties through a street fight. At approximately 4:30 P.M., the teens met up at a residence on Kennedy Lane. Israel Moon, the main suspect, reportedly brought his firearm to the fight. At some point during the event, Moon discharged his weapon into the gathering crowd. One bullet struck nearby Jassim Al-Maleky.

Maleky, the 18-year-old victim, yelled out to the crowd that he was injured. Concerned witnesses immediately began using t-shirts to stop the bleeding while others fled the scene. Police rushed to the area and transported Maleky to the hospital with a gunshot wound to his back. Sadly, the young adult passed away at the hospital less than two hours later.

Detectives quickly identified their primary suspect and posted photographs of Moon on social media websites. They asked for the public’s help in identifying the shooting. When Moon’s family members recognized his photograph on the police department’s social media page, they immediately reached out to authorities to turn Moon in.

Authorities are convinced that the shooting was random, and the victim was not singled out by the perpetrator. Moon is facing multiple charges including criminal homicide and carrying a firearm without a license. Police confirmed that the suspect bravely surrendered himself to police before being placed into the Allegheny County Jail.
