Jeffrey Dusti, a 62-year-old resident of Shirley, had an open and active arrest warrant related to a battery charge when police received a tip that Dusti was also in possession of an illegal homemade silencer in his residence. Per the tip, authorities took out a search warrant on Dusti’s home and made plans to execute both warrants.
The Massachusetts State Police were shocked at what they found inside the suspect’s home. As they took Dusti into custody, they discovered a loaded revolver in his pocket. According to police, the suspect does not currently have a license to carry. Officers also observed a shotgun which had been illegally sawed off in plain view. A more extensive search of the property turned up even more disturbing evidence. A dangerous AR15 was among the firearms that were seized. A statement from the District Attorney’s Office confirmed that authorities uncovered at least 44 homemade silencers, 47 unlicensed firearms and 35,000 rounds of ammunition.
The District Attorney of Middlesex, Marian Ryan, further explained that the suspect’s motives in stockpiling weapons, ammunition and silencers is unclear. Speaking about the suspect’s charges, Ryan explained, “there is no reason that a person with good intentions would require a silencer.”
Dusti was taken into police custody, and he is facing a multitude of charges including possessing a loaded firearm without a license, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, 47 counts of possession of a firearm without a license and 44 counts of possession of a silencer. Additional charges may be levied against the suspect according to the District Attorney’s office.
