MySA reports that a man has been arrested in South Texas in connection with the disappearance of a priest. He was arrested by Texas Rangers after the body of a missing Catholic priest was found in Willacy County last week. The priest was from Massachusetts.

Juan Carlos Baez Escobedo, 27, is being charged with murder and his bail is currently set at $2 million. He is accused of murdering Rev. William Costello, 71, who was a retired priest from the Fall River Diocese in Massachusetts. He was last seen at the Tiki Condominiums on South Padre Island on August 1.

The remains were found near a cemetery in South Texas in Santa Monica. No other details about the case have been released.

Costello became a priest in 1974 and was placed on administrative leave in 2012 after it was discovered he was “part of an investigation” in Rhode Island. The diocese did say that no charges were filed against Costello and the investigation did not involve child abuse.
