My SA reports that a San Antonio woman has been arrested after a 2-year-old boy in her care died with extensive injuries. Roxanne Tovar, 30, was arrested Tuesday, about three months after the boy was found dead with methamphetamine in his system and trauma injuries that weren’t accidental. She is suspected of injury to a child by reckless omission.
Tovar called 911 on July 29 about the boy and police found him unresponsive. He had a bruise on his eye and more on his body, as well as sores on his mouth. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medics.
She told police the boy’s mother left him in her care in April and never returned for him, and blamed his injuries on his 4-year-old sister. The boy’s autopsy also revealed multiple lumps all over his body, injured genitals, sores on his nose and broken and bloody fingernails.
At a second interview on August 7, Tovar continued to blame the 4-year-old sister. She did, however, change the dates they occurred and how they happened.
Tovar eventually told police that the boy had been unresponsive for 20 minutes before she called 911. She also claimed she attempted CPR during that timeframe. She is being held on a $75,000 bond.
