On August 8th, 18-year-old Tyrone McAllister was arrested for his role in the attack on a 71-year-old man in Manteca California.
The 71-year-old man was approached by McAllister and a 16-year-old accomplice who appeared to be harassing the elderly man, Sahib Singh Natt, and the entire interaction was caught on a nearby surveillance video. Singh can be seen putting his hands up as a sign of not wanting a confrontation, but the two teens continue to verbally harass Singh. Singh later told news journalists that he doesn’t even speak English, so he had no idea what the attackers were saying. The duo began kicking the victim until he falls to the ground and his turban falls off his head. The victim attempts to get back up and defend himself, but he is swiftly kicked back down by his attackers. One of the teens spits on the victim before turning around and leaving.
This disturbing crime led to the arrest of both teenagers involved in the attack. They have both been charged with assault with a deadly weapon, elder abuse and attempted robbery. In addition, detectives will consider whether the assault rose to the level of a hate crime.
Darryl McAllister, the Police Chief of the Union City Police Department, confirmed that the main suspect in the attack is his son. He made a public statement on Wednesday on social media confirming the relation and condemning his son’s actions. He explained his family is “shaken to the core” over the violent attack.
