Due to some excellent team work between law enforcement agencies, wanted suspect Yong Lu was apprehended in downtown Niagara Falls last night by NFPD. Lu, a Brooklyn resident, was wanted for cutting off the arm of his pregnant wife on Thursday in Brooklyn. Falls Police Superintendent DalPorto was notified that the suspect was in the downtown Niagara Falls area. NFPD Officers took Lu into custody without incident Saturday evening. A job well done by NFPD, NYPD, and the US Marshals Violent Fugutive Task Force for locating and apprehending the suspect. Our streets are safer because of your efforts.

Abate Elementary School, 1625 Lockport St., Niagara Falls, NY. The event is expected to last two hours. Are you interested in being better prepared for yourself or your family for an active shooter situation? NFPD will be providing information on what actions citizens can take when faced with this scenario. PRESS RELEASE -- Pedestrian Accident Update Due to assistance received from the public, NFPD has identified a vehicle of interest involved in yesterday afternoon's motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. The vehicle involved is described as an older model (2000 to 2006) Chevrolet Tahoe, color white. It was last seen in the area of 24th Street and Pine Avenue. NFPD is asking for assistance from residents or local businesses in the area. If you have any information or surveillance video, please call (716) 286-4711.

PRESS RELEASE – The Niagara Falls Police Department is looking for information on the motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian that happened earlier today at 24th Street and Independence Avenue. The driver fled the scene in a large SUV or pick-up truck vehicle. The 57 year old male pedestrian who was struck has been transported to ECMC where he is currently in critical condition. OPERATION CODE BLUE -- As temperatures continue to drop, the community is reminded of warming centers available to those residents in need. Mayor Paul A. Dyster and Niagara Falls Police Superintendent Bryan DalPorto announced that NFPD officers will once again offer assistance to those in need of shelter as part of Operation Code Blue. If you or someone you know needs shelter, we encourage you to reach out to Niagara Falls Police to connect you to a warming center. Community Missions of Niagara Frontier at 1590 Buffalo Avenue is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to community members who are without a place to stay. Niagara Rescue Gospel Mission at 1023 Ferry Avenue is another location offering a warming center and meals. To all residents of Niagara Falls, please be safe in these dangerously cold temperatures we are facing this weekend.

The 9-year-old Sebastian from Williamsville, NY was given a devastating diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. His family suspects this may be Sebastian’s last Christmas. The Bradley family is hoping people from all over will send young Sebastian a Christmas card to help brighten his spirit and make it his best Christmas ever. We will be sending Sebastian cards, and hope our great community in Niagara Falls will join us. #SebastianStrong

NFPD has officially started their new enforcement program of booting cars of drivers who have the most outstanding parking tickets. Records show that the worst scofflaws have unpaid ticket totals ranging from $200 to $6,000. NFPD is pursing the top offenders on this list by placing boots on their vehicles. Anyone with questions about unpaid parking tickets can contact the Niagara Falls Parking Violations Bureau at 286-4950.

WINTER PARKING SCHEDULE REMINDER Effective Friday, December 1st -- residents are reminded that "no parking" restrictions currently in place from 3AM - 6 AM will be extended from 11 PM - 7 AM.

Jingle Falls USA kicks off on December 2nd! Join us for the First Annual Jingle Falls Candle Light Stroll on Saturday, December 2nd at 4:30 PM! Here's the details from City Hall: Choirs from the Niagara Falls School District will be providing holiday carols along our route. Participants should arrive at City Hall at 4:30 to receive their candles. Please park in the City Hall parking lot. There will be free shuttles to take you back to your car after the festivities. - We will assemble in the foyer and Council Chambers. The Candle Light Stroll will begin at approximately 5:00 pm. We will process down Main Street to 3rd Street (accompanied by the Niagara Falls Police Department) We will continue down 3rd Street to Old Falls Street where the Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place - There will be fireworks, food and alcohol vendors, a Holiday Market Place in the Conference Center, Ginger Bread Wonderland Activities, free horse and carriage rides, a brass band, fire pits and much more.The movie "Elf" will be playing on Old Falls Street. Please join us for what is sure to become a wonderful holiday tradition in Niagara Falls.
