Owego Police Department News

Police Chief Karen Vinti able to spend quality time with our future!

Save me before I go to the pound! I wandered from my home and all these back yards on Front St and Main St look alike. No offense to the OPD but their dog food is kind of yucky! Must be budget cuts!

Night shift in the Village!

This pup was found on Front St. this morning. Very upset and sad to be behind bars. Any information is helpful.

This bicycle was found in the area of Talcott St. and Adaline St. please help us locate the owner. Thank you

Owego Police are investigating a number of vehicle break ins that occurred over night. Anyone with information concerning the events are encouraged to contact police. Unknown person or persons searched through unlocked vehicles attempting to find valuables (mostly cash). Residents are encouraged to keep vehicles locked and any valuable items from plain view. Contact police to report any suspicious behavior.

Thank you Connor for the picture of my police car and for being such a good citizen. It's awesome! Officer Monteiro has your picture on his locker!

From Owego Veterinarian Hospital Please be safe! And remember the safety and warmth of indoor and outdoor animals. Provide shelter for those in need (barn, garage ect.) Even a blanket covered crate on the porch 🐶🐱

Most everything is closed (not literally)! Stay home with the family, snuggle on the sofa, play board games, play in the snow, make cookies...so much to do. Please stay off the road! Thank you to our road crews for trying to stay ahead of the storm to keep our roads safe for emergencies!!

We've been asked about posting press releases. Please check The Village of Owego website and the link for police.

Help! I need bail! Can someone please notify my owners to pick me up? Or call the police so they can contact my owners 687-2234. The police have been very nice to give me shelter, food and water but I miss my home.

This handsome fellow was found this morning on George St. in the Village. Does anyone recognize him? Call 687-2234

Owego Police are trying to identify this individual and/or vehicle seen in these photographs. This male suspect stole two electric fire places from the Price Chopper on West Main St in the Village. Any helpful information is appreciated.

TBT Shoe shine AND parking meters.

Police are investigating a hit and run motor vehicle accident from January 22 on Fox St. unknown vehicle struck a fence and tree. These pieces were left behind although it is believed the vehicle may have more damage. Possibly a pick up truck with two tone copper red and grey trim. The tire marks appear to be dirt tread tires. Any information is appreciated.

Item 2. Resolution to abolish the vacant police officer position. This item was just added to the agenda today! The police department lost one of its newest officers to another department in November. This was a direct result of the consolidation grant being proposed to abolish the police department. The board put a hiring and spending freeze for the Village in September, so when the police department requested to fill this vacant position (which tax payers are currently paying for) the board reverted to the hiring freeze. Unfortunately, more Village employees are leaving. There are currently vacancies at the Waste Water Treatment Facility AND an EMT for your Fire Department. These are all positions taxpayers are currently paying for. This meeting is tonight beginning at 7pm at the Department of Public Works building, 20 Elm St. http://www.villageofowego.com/sites/owegony/files/agendas/1-3-2017.pdf

A reported larceny took place at the Wine Connection in Owego at about 2:00 this afternoon. Can you help identify these two people shown in the photograph? Any information is appreciated and kept confidential. Please private message any names.
