10-3-18 while interviewing a suspect in a petty larceny Asst. Chief Perteet obtained written consent to search the residence. Once inside Perteet along with Chief Chitwood discovered a indoor Marijuana grow in both the master bedroom and kitchen. Investigators from the Dist.22 Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force arrived to assist Wetumka Officers with search and disassembly of the cultivation setup. Officers found 5 plants and numerous pieces of Marijuana paraphernalia as well as bagged marijuana. The suspect had not applied for or obtained any permits. One male suspect was booked into the Hughes County Jail on several felony and misdemeanor charges. The final charging Decisions will be made by the the Hughes County District Attorneys office.

Just a reminder that if you wish to ride your ATV/Four Wheeler during the Sucker Day festivities, you will need to purchase a temporary permit for the day. The temporary permit can be obtained from City Hall for $5.00 and will be good for Sucker Day only. If you already have a permit for your golf cart or side by side you do not need to buy another permit. Operator must be a licensed driver. Operation shall only be the hours of sunrise and sunset. Operation must only be upon city authorized streets. Operators may drive on state highways only if making a perpendicular crossing of a state highway located within the boundaries of the city. The only exception to that will be during the parade and only along the parade route. I want to make this day as fun and safe as possible! Please use a helmet and proper riding gear. IRS IMPERSONATION PHONE SCAMS. Residents have received phone calls from IRS impersonators. The impersonators are threatening that the call receiver will be arrested if he or she does not comply. This scam, and other phone scams, will likely continue as long as people continue falling for them. WHAT TO DO Just hang-up; Do not provide them with any information. If you believe that you might owe federal taxes, you can call the IRS at 1(800)829-1040 to confirm and/or work out arrangements. If you do not owe taxes, you can report the scam to the Treasury Inspector General for the Tax Administration by filling out this form https://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml ADDITIONAL SAFETY INFO It is good practice to never give your personal information to ANYONE that calls you, no matter what the Caller ID shows. If they claim to be a person or business that you are affiliated with, use a phone number from a trusted source to call them back at.

07-28-18 A Wetumka Officer initiated a traffic stop at Main and Porter. The vehicle pulled into Super C parking lot. As the officer approached the vehicle the driver fled the parking lot at a high rate of speed. A multi county vehicle pursuit ensued. Ending at marker 198 on Interstate 40 only after a Oklahoma State Trooper conducted a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver causing the vehicle to leave the roadway safely ending the pursuit without any injuries. The driver was booked into the Seminole County Jail. The identity of the driver will be released after formal charges have been filed in Seminole and Hughes counties. We would like to thank The Hughes County K-9 unit , Seminole County Sheriff Shannon Smith , Deputy Lampkin and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for their assistance.

The Police Department is currently accepting applications for 2 part time Detention Officers/ Dispatchers.This will be 3 -4 days a week 8 hr shifts. If interested Applications can be picked up at the Police Dept. experience is Preferred but not required. Must have no felony convictions.
