Thank you to everyone who supported our Fill the Bucket event benefiting Assistant Chief Ron Bolton! Due to unforeseen technical issues we were unable to activate the outdoor warning sirens during last night's tornado-warned storm. We feel very confident that this issue has been resolved. It is important to remember that outdoor warning sirens are designed only to alert those who are outside that something dangerous is approaching. The National Weather service recommends when the sirens are heard, you should go inside and tune to local media to get more information.

We are very thankful for the concern and support shown to Assistant Chief Ron Bolton, and wife Carla, during this difficult time. We ask that you continue to keep Ron, his family, and our officers and staff in your thoughts and prayers in the upcoming weeks. We are in the process of establishing an account with First National Bank and Trust Company to allow for anyone interested to donate to the Bolton family. Funds are needed to cover medical expenses and other costs related to this incident. Additionally, several groups are planning fundraisers and benefits to support the Bolton and Eades families. The Blue Knights are also accepting donations at the Lone Grove Police Department and Love County Sheriff Department to benefit both families.

We have been contacted by citizens who are receiving telephone calls soliciting a free wireless home security system that is monitored by local law enforcement. The Department does not have the equipment or resources to provide a security system monitoring service. Further, we urge you to use caution when conducting business transactions via telephone. Through collaboration with school officials, the Marietta Police Department has identified two juveniles who are responsible for creating and distributing “scary clown” threats through social media networks. Once the investigation is complete, the case will be referred to the Oklahoma Juvenile Authority and the Love County District Attorney’s Office.

The Marietta Police Department is aware of the recent messages regarding school violence which have circulated on social media sites. We do not believe that a credible threat exists with regard to Marietta Public Schools. However, we will continue to investigate any issue which poses a possible disruption to the educational process or a potential risk to students and staff. We maintain frequent communication with school officials regarding safety and security on campus, and we believe that current security measures are sufficient in ensuring the safety of the students and staff at Marietta Public Schools.
