Bellefonte Police Department News

The annual Bellefonte Borough Trick-or-Treating will be Wednesday October 31, from 6 pm to 8 pm. We would like to wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween.

Due to inclement weather, the Halloween parade and Fall Festival at Talleyrand park scheduled for today has been cancelled.

As a reminder, here at Bellefonte Borough Police Department, our Warming Tree is once again ready for the cold weather season. We have hats, gloves, socks, a few scarves, some small fleece covers, tissues, hand warmers, lip balm, etc. on our tree for those who may be in need of these items. The tree is in the offset, right outside the entrance to the Police Department. There is no fee. Anyone in need of some of these items is welcome to either take them from the tree, or there are some small bins with items in. Our tree will be up from now through April 15th. If you have any questions, please stop in to the office and someone can assist you. We want everyone to have a safe, warm and healthy season.

FOUND DOG: This Jack Russell was found in Bellefonte near the Elementary school. If you are the owner or you know who this dog belongs to please call 1-800-479-0050.

Today a very sweet little girl named Avery touched all of our hearts. She came to our office to bring lunch to all the policeman to thank them for everything they do to keep everyone safe. We are so grateful and appreciative for her wonderful generosity and kindness at such a young age. This gives the world a bright and hopeful future when a child so young is that appreciative. She told Officers over and over to stay safe. Our regret is that we did not get a picture of Avery, but the next time Mom brings her in we most certainly will! We hope to see her often visiting with us.

Lots of events happening in Downtown Bellefonte today and this weekend. Come down and enjoy the Bellefonte Arts and Crafts fair held at the diamond in Downtown Bellefonte. We caution people who have to drive downtown as it will be congested since Allegheny St. is closed between Bishop and Howard Streets and High St. is closed from Pike to Spring Streets. They have free parking at the Bellefonte High School with shuttle service to the downtown area. On Saturday there is the Herbie’s Hometown Loop 5/10K race beginning at 8:30 Am. We hope everyone can come and enjoy the vendors, musicians and food.

We would like to remind everyone that fishing along the banks and sidewalk between the W. High St. Bridge and the W. Lamb St. Bridge is prohibited. If you want to fish in that are you must wade in the stream. The reason for this is safety for individuals walking on the sidewalk enjoying the views of the stream and also it can become costly to have to re-plant grass each year from wear. Signs are posted at both entrances stating this. We thank everyone ahead of time for complying with this.

Bellefonte Police are warning residents of a new phone scam. If you receive a call from someone claiming to be the U.S. Treasury and advising that if you send money they will send you more money back, this is a scam.
