South Dakota Game Fish and Parks - Conservation Officers News

2018 Salmon Spawn Update: This fall 933 Chinook salmon returned up the fish ladder and 1.5 million salmon eggs were collected. This EXCEEDED our goal of 1.2 million eggs!! The 2019 stocking goal for Lake Oahe is 300-400 thousand juvenile Chinook salmon. This is the first year since the 2011 flood that South Dakota has been able to collect enough eggs, without assistance from neighboring states, to meet stocking requests. The increased ladder returns this year, specifically of 2-year-old male salmon, indiciates increased survival of young salmon and likely more Chinook salmon available for anglers to catch the next few years!!
