Congratulations to all of the Explorer Posts that participated in the 2018 Explorer Challenge in Sioux Falls this Weekend. Watertown Post 119 won the challenge, and did a very special thing with their trophy (see below...) MCSO Explorer Post 11 had a great showing: Samantha Pulse and her team won for Active Shooter and Traffic Collision scenarios. Nick Irvine and his group won for Crime Scene Processing. Samantha was named co-winner of Explorer of the Year!!! After winning the trophy, Watertown Post 119 presented it back to MCSO Post 11 in memory of Deputy Steve Maciejewski, who died while on duty in April. He was a long time Explorer Advisor, and the decision was made to rename the traveling trophy after Majic. Watertown Post 119- thank you. That is one of the most meaningful things and shows the true spirit of this brother/sisterhood of ours. https://www.facebook.com/MCSOExplorerPost11/?ref=br_rs https://www.facebook.com/Post119/?ref=br_rs

Thank you to the woman who paid for our SWAT team’s lunch this afternoon! She thanked us and left before anyone knew what she had done. We were able to catch up to her to properly thank her and she shared a touching story with our deputy before they hugged. For every negative story or interaction between LE and citizens, there are thousands of great ones like today. Thanks again!!

The Fugitive Task Force participated in training hosted by the US Marshals in Rapid City the other week and took a rare photo of them all together. From left to right: Det. Zach Cegelske, Sgt. Ryan Qualseth, Det. Seth Hodges, Det. Travis Beltman (SFPD), Det. Cody Lowe and Det, Kiel Ricci. Please comment on who you think is the best dressed....they have differing opinions 😜

The Minnehaha County Sheriff’s Office extends its gratitude to the agencies and everyone who attended the funeral for Dep. Maciejewski. We deeply appreciate the support from all of you. It meant a great deal to Majic’s family and the MCSO. There are so many agencies and people to thank for assisting, please know that we appreciate all of you, even if we neglect to note it: Sioux Falls Police Department, Metro Communications, South Dakota Highway Patrol, Brandon Police Department, Paramedics Plus, and Hartford Fire Department. We especially want to acknowledge the citizens of Sioux Falls who, during the procession to the final resting place, showed respect and love to Majic and his family by stopping their vehicles, and getting out of them. We saw you all. It was overwhelming. Thank you. Please share this post so that those people might see it and accept our gratitude. Sheriff Mike Milstead

Dep. Maciejewski was laid to rest today. Accompanying him and his family to the cemetery was a several-mile long procession of law enforcement vehicles. As Majic left the church, his final radio Call was broadcast. “Metro to J 24/7... Metro calling J 24/7... Metro calling Deputy Steve Maciejewski, J 24/7... Rest In Peace, Majic, we have the watch from here. Deputy Sheriff Steve Maciejewski, APRIL 7, 1430 hours, 10-7”

Today, Mitchell Public Safety Director Overweg and Sheriff Milstead presented Deputy Maciejewski's wife with a check from South Dakota Salutes for $10,000 to help with immediate expenses. Thanks South Dakota Salutes!

Thank you to Marlin's Family Restaurant in Sioux Falls for honoring Dep. Maciejewski. You have always been supportive of Law Enforcement.

For law enforcement agencies intending to have marked units or unmarked with lights, please follow the direction of uniformed SFPD officers at the church for staging. Thank you in advance for the support.
