Good morning Facebook!!! Today is Primary Tuesday, in South Dakota. That means it is time to VOTE. The polls are officially open in Moody County. If you are a registered Republican you have the most decisions to make. A candidate for Governor, a candidate for US House of Representatives, and maybe more depending on where you live. If you are a registered Democrat or a registered Independent you at least have the Amendment Y to vote on. What is Amendment Y? It is a fix to the Marcy's Law that was passed in 2016. Do your research, be educated on the issues and candidates and Get Out and Vote. In a society that continues to address the rights we have this is one that most people choose not to exercise. If you don't vote your voice goes unheard. Polls are open until 7 p.m. local time in South Dakota.

The Moody County Sheriff's Office is investigating two Burglaries that happened in the over night hours of 05-14-18 into 05-15-18. Items such as cigarettes, liqueur, and diesel mechanic tools were taken. This is a rapidly growing case as it sounds as there are other business in other counties that are possible targets as well as being used to get rid of items. At this point we do not believe that the suspect(s) are still in the immediate area. If you see something that doesn't seem right say something. We can not be everywhere and utilize public to be our eyes and ears.

Today is not only Mother's Day it is the beginning of National Police Week. Please remember those that lost their lives protecting yours. 128 Law Enforcement Officers across the nation died in the line of duty in 2017. Some were Fathers, or Mothers, all were Sons or Daughters, Some were Husbands, or Wives. But they were all HEROES!!!!!!!!! Not in how they died but how thy lived their lives. Serving and protecting the people that counted them to be that Line between good and evil. Police Week this year is May 13 through May 19. Never Forgotten, Deputy Bill Davis Moody County EOW (end of Watch) 11-03-03, Sgt Chad Mechels EOW 03-15-09. Over the years there have been more in just our state alone but these two hit close to home. Do you feel like burning something today? You are in luck according to the NWS Moody County has fallen out of the Very High Grassland Fire danger. Which means we are not currently in a burn ban the way the ordinance is now written. BUT!!!! Sunday the winds are expected to increase again and it is very possible we will end up there again, which will reactivate the burn ban. If you do have a controlled burn today, you are still required to call it in at the Moody County Sheriff's Office 605-997-2423. Please take extra precaution to make sure that your fire is out tonight. With the help of the wind we have seen a fire from as old as 10 days get rekindled and spread very rapidly over several hundred acres causing damage.
