On the afternoon of March 13, 2017 a residence was broken into on Whitwell Mountain on Pocket Road. Seveal items were stolen including the following items. Play Staion 3 ,Play Station 4, X-Box 360 ,Wii Game Player ,Mutipule DVD's, Apox 1,000 in jewerly, 5 Point Laser leveling tool, Dewalt 18 volt Radio , and a 42 inch Samsung TV. If anyone has tried to sale you or you have purchased any of these item please contact Det Beth Raulston or the Marion County Sheriff Dept. There is a $500 reward to any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the party or parties involved .

On today's date at apox 12:50 in the afternoon the man pictured below walked in and robbed the North Jackson Bank in Kimball, TN. Tonight at the Marion County SD Christmas dinner a very special employee was honored! Ronnie "Groove" Downun has worked for 20+ years for the Sheriffs Dept . Groove has worked under several different Sheriffs . He has always been a dedicated employee. He has always treated people with respect and honesty! This Friday at 5pm Deputy Downum will go 10-7 for the last time . He has decided to retire and spend time with his wife and family. Job well done Groove you have given your time to the citizens of Marion County! Now it is time for you to enjoy your retirement. If you see Deputy Downum this week thank him for his service . Whoever takes his place has very big shoes to fill.

Praying for all the victims and victims families from the tragic bus accident yesterday in Chattanooga. Also say a prayer for all the police , fire , and EMS . Accident scenes with children involved are very hard to work mentally and physically . #prayersforwoodmore#noogastrong

Over the past few days Marion County has been covered with smoke. This smoke is a result of several wildfires in our area. Any type of burning is strictly prohibited at this time. We know this is everyone's favorite time for camp fires . Under these conditions they are also prohibited. If you are caught burning anything you can be charged and taken to jail. Also if you have information leading to the arrest of the subject or subjects starting these fires contact authorities . Please pray for our forestry division as they work 24 hours a day battling these fires. Also pray for rain !

It is with great sorrow that we report that passing of one of the Sheriffs Depts Narcotic Detection K-9's Guss. Sgt .Guss started at the sheriffs office in 2004. Sgt. Keith Cox handled Guss his whole time at the sheriffs dept? In 2012 Sgt. Guss was retired after a very successful career at the sheriffs office. The agency was able to keep a lot of drugs off the street because of Guss. Sgt. Guss passed away yesterday in the arms of his best friend and handler Sgt. Keith. Cox. We ask that you keep Sgt. Some of the marijuana plants that the Marion County Sheriffs Narcotics Unit along with T.B.I. Drug agents harvested today in Marion County!

On October 7, 2015 Sgt. Jerry Vanallman along with Detectives with the Marion County Sheriff Dept. received information that a subject that had escaped from Meigs County Jail on Sept. 27, 2015 was hiding out in Marion County. Officers used All terrain vehicles to get to the secluded spot off Hwy 108 on Whitwell Mtn. were the subject was located. Officer were able to locate and arrest the escapee Cody Lynn Ratcliff on Felony Escape Charges without incident.

Today different Law Enforcement Agencies and Emergency Services spent time with the Kids and Staff of Jasper Elementary School. We would like to thank the staff of JES for inviting the Marion County Sheriff Dept. to the event. Students received different information on topic's such as Stranger Danger and bicycle safety from our School Resource officers. Along with a show and tell experience with the sheriff's dept. S.W.A.T team and S.W.A.T. vehicle.

On Wednesday Sept 30, 2015 the Marion County Sheriff Dept. responded to a call on Jackson Point Road on South Pittsburg Mtn. The call was in reference to a attempted theft of a Commercial John Deere Tractor that belonged to Cardin Wood Products. Although the suspects were unsuccessful in their attempt to steal the tractor the vehicle received a large amount of damage. Anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this incident will receive $500.00 in reward money.
