ANOTHER Scam!! If you receive the following text, do NOT respond to it. It is a scam. Do not call the number listed.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has received complaints regarding fake currency. Businesses are reporting that customers are paying for merchandise/gas with currency that is made for the “MOTION PICTURE INDUSTRY.” This type currency is NOT legal tender to purchase goods. The currency is clearly marked “FOR MOTION PICTURE USE ONLY.” The cash is made in the denominations of 10’s, 20’s, 50’s and 100’s. Be aware and check the currency you are receiving to prevent being a victim. If you receive any of this currency, you can contact the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 361-782-3541.

In the past week, the JCSO has received multiple calls from landowners reporting campaign signs disappearing from private property on Hwy 111. Anyone with information regarding these crimes should contact the JCSO. It is illegal to steal, willfully deface, mutilate or destroy any campaign yard sign on private property. The penalties for Theft vary depending upon the value of the property stolen.

UPDATE: The dog is being well taken care of and the case is under investigation. Please no more comments. Everything is being taken care of properly and lawfully. Thank you for all the concerns.

Attention Jackson County, please be advised of an ongoing phone scam that is circulating locally: the caller falsely claims there is an issue with your computer & advises that he can remotely fix the problem over the phone. This is a scam. Do NOT allow anyone you do not know to gain remote access to your computer! NEVER wire money to someone who calls you on the phone!
