Here is some tips that you may find helpful to prepare for Hurricane Florence. *Create an emergency kit that includes food and water for at least 3 days for people and pets. Kits should also include medications, batteries, flashlights, first aid supplies, and a radio at minimum. *Make a plan of where to go if flooding begins to occur, and how to get there. *Announcements about shelter locations when and if they are opened will be on the county website, Facebook, local TV and radio, and will go out on Nixle notifications. *Citizens should text there zip code to 888777 to sign up for Nixle alerts. *Updates on the progress of the storm will be constantly updated on the county website. *Have a plan of how to communicate with family members if you lose power. *During an emergency, texting is generally more reliable then phone calls. *Keep cell phones charged. *Generators should be placed outside in well ventilated areas away from windows. They should never be indoors. *Keep vehicles and generators full of fuel. *Bring lightweight furniture indoors if safe to do so. Anchor it down if it cant be brought inside. * Do NOT drive through standing water. Turn Around, Don't Drown *Do NOT call 911 unless true emergency exists.
