Press Release from the Gate City Police Department On October 1, 2018 the Gate City Police Department was made aware of a white male passed out in his truck parked on West Jackson street. Officer Matthew Stewart assisted by Chief Terry Sivert approached the vehicle and made contact with the male subject who was slumped over behind the wheel of his pick up truck. He was identified as Dennis Helton, age 55 of 3129 Manville Rd. Upon speaking with Mr. Helton, Officer Stewart found a plastic bag in his possession, which contained approximately 4 grams of Methamphetamine, several smaller baggies, measuring Instrument, suboxone, and over $400 cash. Officer Stewart conducted a search of his vehicle and found several knives, a machete, and a set of digital scales. Upon finding other items inside the vehicle and conducting further investigation, Dennis Helton was arrested and charged with Possession of Schedule II narcotic with intent to distribute, Possession of schedule III narcotic, and having a concealed weapon. Charges of possession of schedule III narcotic was also placed on Kayla Hensley age 34 of 173 West Jackson street Gate City, VA 24251. Dennis Helton is being held at the Duffield Regional Jail on a secured bond. Kayla Hensley is being held on unrelated charges at the Duffield Regional Jail. Chief Sivert would like to thank Officer Stewart for his hard work and also would like to thank the Scott County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.

Press Release from the Gate City Police Department On September 29th, 2018, Officers were notified of a possible stolen vehicle traveling north on Highway 72. Scott County Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Alan Hammonds, Investigator Sam Cassell, and Major Chris Holder conducted a stop on the vehicle, it was confirmed to be stolen, which was stolen on September 21st, 2018 from Gateway Plaza in Gate City. Officer Lucas Shelley with the Gate City Police Department assisted on scene and spoke with the driver Adam Dean age 35 of 1249 River Bluff Road, Ft. Blackmore VA. 24250, and with the passenger, Nicole Marie Scott age 26 of 316 Old Beason Well Road, Kingsport, TN 37660. Who were both charged with Grand Theft of a motor vehicle and conspiracy. Chief Sivert would like to thank Officer Shelley and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office officers for their hard work in this incident which no one was harmed and the vehicle was recovered and returned to the owner.
